One Piece: The Xtreme Review (Part 1: From East Blue to Skypiea)
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
You don’t avoid One Piece because it’s “too long” you avoid it because you’re not sure the time will pay you back. We put that fear on trial and start where every new fan starts: the East Blue Saga. With Kokugatsu and Talos Gundam, we talk through what makes Luffy click as a lead, why the Straw Hat crew chemistry works so early, and how moments like Mihawk’s first appearance quietly set the ceiling for the entire series.
We also get real about the U.S. viewing experience. If your first exposure was the 4Kids dub, there’s a good chance you never actually met the same One Piece fans fell in love with. We explain what gets lost when tone, stakes, and context change, why Arlong Park lands as a genuine character turning point for Nami, and why we still think the “journey” parts including filler-style breathing room help you care about the crew as people, not just fighters.
Then Tinara joins us for the next stretch as we jump into the Alabasta Arc, Jaya, and Skypiea. We break down Crocodile’s scheme, why Alabasta feels like political anime storytelling instead of a simple desert adventure, and how One Piece world building keeps expanding without dropping the emotional thread. From Blackbeard’s dream speech to Skypiea’s lore and symbolism, we connect the arcs to the bigger mysteries that make One Piece a cultural icon.

Why One Piece Deserves A Watch
SPEAKER_06Hey yo, y'all ready for another stream review with the zone podcast? Well, I feel like talking about One Piece because we want those uh views where I feel obligated to in a spiritual level, you know what I mean? Because if we're gonna be doing shit like bleach and narrow to, we gotta do one piece dog, because one piece definitely deserves flower. Like, despite people say, Oh, I don't let me earth there, oh, it's too long. Bitch, bitch, I I I promise you, like, if you really um disse One Piece, like you can like knock out most of these seasons in a fucking weekend. Like, I don't know why y'all act like it's sets hard when you've probably seen anime shows that ran way longer, but you didn't mind it for whatever reason. But hey, listen, to Easter own is fine, but let me go ahead and knock out this extreme review with how One Piece definitely deserves at least one good watch down the road.
East Blue Crew And First Impressions
SPEAKER_06So let's start with the East Blue saga, where we meet the likes of Luffy, obviously, but we always get introduced to Zorro, Nami, Usopp, Sanji, and we see them scrap up with all these different pirates that's popping up. So let's go ahead and get into it. Uh, with me, we got Pokegasu and Telos Gundam. I'm gonna start with you, Talos, um, because you're the main boy that I wanted to be on this review. Uh, how are you feeling about One Piece as a whole right now?
SPEAKER_07Uh there once was a man named Go Raja. No one talks about it, right? Wholeheartedly, I am a One Piece fan. Listen to what I see. One Piece fame, not one piece staying. Meaning I know what I'm talking about. I ain't been sitting here and bullshit on characters, etc. etc. Luffy is that motherfucking goat.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_07I mean that motherfucking goat. I won't.
SPEAKER_06Nah, see, here's my thing. Like, I was sitting here thinking, you know what? Folks are treating Luffy like how they treat a side summer nowadays. Like, oh, he's a cat character. Uh, what he supposed to do? I'm like, bitch, y'all need to stop sleeping on this man. Like, I saw this man go up against fucking, what's his name? Uh Don Creed with the fucking big ass armor with uh spike shield. That dude fucking punched right through that spike shield, spikes going through his fist and all that. I mean, stop playing with him, man. Like, he go. He he'll scrap with anybody.
SPEAKER_07So, right? Like I said, one piece for me is one of my top tier go-tos. When I say even on manga and anime, it's my top-tier go-to's. It has cemented its place, not only in my heart, but in history. And what I mean by that is for you to sit for you to sit there and get an entire wing of a museum where every page from page one of issue one all the way to your last page of your last issue will go from wall to wall. I want you to know something. That's dedication. That's history. That's that's goddamn.
SPEAKER_06I bet they shit every week, huh?
SPEAKER_07That's like I say, that's a coach. That's the motherfucking coach. So understand me, right? It's it's it's ooh, ooh, one piece is up there. This is not me glazing it. This is this is whole heartback. One piece is up.
SPEAKER_06Nah, see, listen, like, you can't deny that is uh a cultural icon because even though I said it multiple times already, but when I say highest grossing manga series, no bar none, I'm saying this because look here. You can say that artist objective and all that, all you want to, but the only objective measure we have to gauge the success of a series, sales. And when you see those fucking numbers, somebody fucking loves the series enough to buy these fucking manga um books. So like One Piece must be doing something right to have fans as strong as that.
SPEAKER_07Facts! Facts, right? Like, legit. And since we're over there in the East Loop right now, I'm gonna tell you like it is. Yes, you get introduced to Luffy, you get introduced to Zoro, Nami, Usopp, uh, you get introduced to Sanja. You get the big three. I'm gonna tell you that now. You get the big three, and or as we call them in there, the monster trio. I want you to understand. One part of this that I relatively love is the Don Creek fight. Well, correct me. Now you get the Don Creek fight itself. It is where we first get introduced to Hawkeye Mihawk.
SPEAKER_06Oh, you mean Dracula Mihawk? Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_07Stop talking about skip baby daddy. Look, look, first off, first off, skip baby daddy. This is the only this is the only baby daddy I let her have. I was like, all right, you know what? I can respect this man. As you hear me mention, I'm not even mentioning his first name because you don't get to see Dracula until Dracula comes, and Dracula comes later.
SPEAKER_03Okay, very good, very good.
SPEAKER_07Hey Like I say, Dracula comes later. Hawkeye. Hawkeye be Hawk. That man now shows literally the definition of foreshadowing.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_07Because legit it tells you, okay, if he's this strong, and they're not as strong as him, nah, they're gonna go through some hellified training to get there.
SPEAKER_06See, with Hawkeye here, he kind of reminds me of Kim Potti to where I'm like, well, not to be gonna compare too much, but all I'm saying is, like, look, he got like two, he had like two um blades on him at the time, right? And he was like, Look here, if you can't even beat me with my butter knife, what the fuck I'm doing called use my best against you.
SPEAKER_01Like boy, can I can I talk about the fact that how much they changed that little scene throughout multiple different iterations of this? That one of them is like, oh, it's a dagger, but the real literalization of it is this the little blade, just the small one-inch blade that was on his necklace. Just straight up disrespectful. That's the three sources of this. Like you, you're not even and I think the only, and I'm sorry, I'm gonna get you right back to you because I've this is also one of those ones where I like how they talk about it later on. It's like, oh, it's this famous black blade, it's this famous black blade. And this is the only person, and it's kind of a bit in itself, as far as you say, foreshadowing, the only person whose hockey is so strong other people see it.
SPEAKER_07Yes, because relatively, right? As they say it, and this, and this is the only thing I'm gonna pick up, I'm gonna uh I'm gonna give you a little tidbit taste of your humanity.
SPEAKER_06You could say that uh Hawkeye was, as the kids say, horror farming at the time.
SPEAKER_07But no, so here's the thing, right? Hockey, for those of you that are just relatively new to this, normal people can't see it. Normal people don't see that at all. Not not a bit, not so normal people will never see hockey. So, in all honesty, for even normal people who don't have hockey to see it, that should tell you not only the level of power that this man holds, but the level of danger that you're in when you're around him. Because as they called hot, as they called it, he's a man that can literally destroy fleets with one swing. And note the key word when I say this, right? Folks be thinking, oh, a fleet, you're talking about a fleet, he can just destroy two ships at a time, two at a time. Two ships. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, a fleet is several ships. When we say several, I'm talking about like the whole battalion. I'm talking about we're we're talking about at least plus four or more, and he's able to destroy those at once with one swing. He can slice through all of them in one swing and send them to the bottom. So understand the power and the danger that that man can put you in. Horror, however, going back to it, right? The monster trio, Zoro, Sanji, two of the beasts, relatively, I promise you. In East Blue, I felt like they slept on Sanji way too damn much. It's my opinion. They slept on Sanji way too much.
SPEAKER_06Because for Sanji to be as busted as you're know he has potential, but uh yeah, they didn't showcase a whole lot of it at the beginning.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, it was like, oh look, nah, you ain't got you ain't got no no real potential. Sanji ain't gonna really be nothing. Sanji's not gonna stand and die. Oh, okay. Wait till later episodes. What you mean? Oh, when we say this man literally puts foot to ass. He puts foot to ass. I was trying to tell you. It's it's so nice. Nami, I want you to know I was so happy with her. I'm so happy with her development.
SPEAKER_06Yes.
SPEAKER_07I am. I I I really, really am. Don't get me wrong. I know folks be like, what you mean? Like, she's just, you know, she's just there for fan service. No, no, she's not. She actually, she actually got way better out.
SPEAKER_06I'm like, she's become a low-key weather guy with uh the power she's a keeping around.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, so it she's get she's got a lot better. But like I said, we'll get there. In the beginning, Nami didn't seem like she was gonna be much. She was she was just gonna be like Usopp relatively was thought to be just a gag character.
SPEAKER_06Man, they need to stop playing with Usopp too. Like you talk about how I'm talking about the Hawkeye with like that fucking um precision with the fun, you know. Ooh, like we'll get to it though, we'll get to it.
SPEAKER_07Like, look, look, they're gonna have to stop playing on Usopp name.
SPEAKER_06They call him God Usa for a reason.
SPEAKER_07Overall, because overall, and I'm I'm Atlantic here. Um I want y'all to understand for me. This is hype, this is hype territory. This is this is relatively like oh, oh, this is glorious. Luffy did so much to say that he they that he started out floating in a barrel. To say it opens up with him floating in a barrel. So yeah, I understand that this this is this is some ghost shit. I advise y'all to pick it up and watch it. Read it if you want to, if it's relative, because as much as you want to say, ooh, it's too much, nigga. You got time. You got time. Read. So I hand it over to Coco Gotcha.
SPEAKER_06If you go ahead, if you honestly paid yourself, you can you got this. But go ahead,
The 4Kids Problem And Watching Right
SPEAKER_06Coco got it. What you got?
unknownAll right.
SPEAKER_01So look, and this is a general thing into it. I've mentioned to you guys, you guys know, but uh this is the only one that I've actually watched. So while he's talking to y'all, he's also talking to me. Um just go ahead and put that out there. Uh, when I got into One Piece, I got a One Piece of Four Kids, and Four Kids changed up a lot of stuff. Okay, and four kids changed this iconic in America for changing up anime because it's too violent.
SPEAKER_06Okay, I said real quick, side tangent, real quick, but I give it right back to you. First of all, we definitely didn't do a Yu-Gi-Oh! extreme review because I definitely want to talk about how I wear bandit keeps with the infamous finger gun.
SPEAKER_01The infamous finger gun? It was supposed to be an actual gun, but there was that's the thing.
SPEAKER_06I was like, you know that was supposed to be a gun, but you know poor kids.
SPEAKER_01Do you know that in the anime community, even today, we still get roasted, like America still gets roasted about that? It's like, isn't America like the gun place? Like, isn't that where you can go and buy a gun and own guns, but you're afraid to there are kids that shoot guns, but you're afraid for this one guy to have a gun that you had to completely change the animation from a gun to a finger, and then like it was a different time. Oh god, but no, like four kids, very different. Um, not not when I'm talking about they changed up so much like storyline into it was one of the reasons that I couldn't really get into One Piece, and that's one of those ones that I'm gonna say was a sad thing. And I y'all heard me talk about this before, um, with various different other anime that we reviewed. Well, I was like, I watched started off on four kids, and I had to go back and re-watch it and realize, oh my goodness, four kids screwed this up for me. I should have watched the original, and then I would have understood why this series is so good. This is one of those series. So if you were a kid and you was like, Oh yeah, I watched that as a kid on like the WB and stuff. No, you watched it on four kids, you ruined yourself. Please go back, start over again, and watch it correctly. So I did. It took years before I finally did that, but I did. I finally went back, re-watched it, and I now understand why it's so great. Um, I've had most of it spoiled for me by that point. So I'm relatively up to date on One Piece without actually being up to date on One Piece. But we're gonna focus on East Blue. Yeah, but we're gonna focus on East Blue. East Blue is um, it's once you watch the real version, it's actually really good. Um, it's one of those ones that's a really good start off. This one, it has so much foreshadowing that you don't quite understand it. Like the whole thing about Fanx. We get introduced to Fanx, not knowing that he's gonna be literally like pretty much the final boss at the end of this whole series. Uh, where it's estimated it's foreshadowed so far that he's still gonna be the final boss. But we get Fanx. And Fanx, being so powerful as he is, was able to defeat a sea king. Because we're sitting here like, oh, One Piece just has giant monsters. You don't understand that that giant serpent that almost killed Luffy was a sea king. It wasn't just any type of giant monster, it was an it was a monster of monsters. Like the thing is extremely powerful, and it's like, oh, okay, it took Shanks' arm, and you're not realizing there's actually a reason for that. That little point, you're just like, oh, okay, it's just to kind of showcase how dangerous the sea is. No, it was it was more than that. And real One Piece fans will know what I mean by that. That yeah, uh Shanks losing his arm, there's a lot more to that than you thought. It's like, oh, okay. Uh there's so many different points where it's like it really kind of showcases that every little thing that happens is for a reason. Every little thing. And it's one of those ones that you can absolutely appreciate that our mangaka is able that Oda is able to really understand the importance of every piece of writing. Nothing that happens is for nothing. It's not the literally, what what do we talk about it? Um something is gun? Oh, it shows that you shouldn't.
SPEAKER_06Check off's gone. Check off gun.
SPEAKER_01Check off's gone. Yeah, so it's like we see the gun, we see it there, and it's like, oh, it's in the background, it's probably just something simple. No, every little detail is important, and it's one of those ones I'm like, I absolutely appreciate you know that I appreciate series about that. If y'all have been a long time listener with us, again, thank you so much. But then y'all understand I appreciate those little details. Something in the background that you think wasn't important is there. It's one of the reasons why I love Sherlock Holmes series. So it's like, yeah, absolutely. Um, ease blue, we get a good introduction for these characters, we get an introduction for how um everyone is. Like Nami, in the beginning, you're not going to be surprised that you're like, oh, she betrays the crew. But then it becomes very obvious she betrayed them to try to save them, but also because she still has her long-term goal that's there. Um understanding the big difference about the fishermen as well, too, and their enroll and importance. At the beginning in East Blue, you don't really think about it that much. You're just like, oh, okay, this is just giving an idea they're pirates who are pirating. And it's like, no, not every pirate actually pirates. Is it's actually like a what you would imagine a pirate to be. Now, a big a big spoiler to hit, because I'm probably I may or may not be on these further podcasts, but a big spoiler ahead, Blackbeard, that is a pirate.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, Blackbeard is how you would expect a pirate to even look, honestly.
SPEAKER_01Look, act, everything about him, he's an actual pirate. Yeah, but everyone else has like a reason for it. And so it kind of makes a difference into that. That's as far as like my general thing into it.
SPEAKER_06Um it's like there's ethical pirates, like, not pirates where like, oh, they just go around uh looting and killing everybody, just more like some folks just wanna do whatever the fuck they want, you know, just have their own little boat and have their own little adventures, like you know, little free and all that.
East Blue Arcs Breakdown And Foreshadowing
SPEAKER_06But uh let's see, let's go into the main arcs and because there's this is the East Blue saga, but there were like five uh arcs within these 61 episodes. We have the romance done arc where it introduces Luffy, who dreams to become the Pirate King, uh sailing alone, meets uh Kobe. Keep your eyes on Kobe, he's gonna matter later, and then recruits um the first crew member, Zora, of course. Of course, uh Zoro was a pirate hunter at the time, but he got captured, and Luffy uh was able to get his swords back, and Luffy was like, hey yo, so if I give you swords back, you're gonna join a crew, right? I'm like, you know, a deal's a deal. So that's how that happened. Then we have the Orangetown art where Luffy and Zoro arrive to Orangetown, they meet Nami, um Navigator and Thief, and face off gets Buggy the Clown. Keep your eye on him, too, because he ends up fucking around and becoming uh one of the seven warlords out of nowhere. And I think his powers are kind of interesting, but you know, he kind of comes off as one of those gag characters, too. But once again, keep your eye on him. Uh, the serib village art, that's where we meet Usopp, who had a history of being like, you know, the boy who cried wolf, but there was a reason behind that because, you know, he was hoping one day that his father would come back and hear all the uh exploits of his son doing great things and you know the whole thing. And meanwhile, uh Luffy, Zoro, and Usopp was going up against Capakuro, who was masquerading as this girl's uh butler when trying to um assassinate her one day and inherit her fortune because he can have the power to uh manipulate her uh last bullet testment and all that shit. Uh the Arlong Park art. Okay, this one got a little crazy for me because like um tell us um Togetsu was saying with Nami's uh backstory and whatnot. Num the main reason why Nami was trying to uh get as much money as possible, even as far as um double crossing uh Luffy and Zoro and the rest of them was mainly oh, my bad. I skipped one. The bar tea art. That's where we meet uh Sanji and you know the cook and he battles against Don Kree. And I like this art, honestly, like where essentially Sanji would cook for whether it's a friend or foe, but you know, he just can't stand for someone to um be starving. Um my bad for Unglaze, but I kind of skipped that over. But now we get to the Rlong art where Nami was willing to um double cross Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji um taking the boat and all that to go back to Arlong Park, but it was mainly towards um pay off uh, you know, getting her freedom back. And that's crazy because when I was preparing for this review, I was thinking of it like, oh uh, so Arlong is treating Nami and the rest of them like their slaves or whatnot. And I'm thinking of that one scene from Zing on Chang where um Calvin Candy sat hilly down, and I was like, she's my property, and I choose to do with my property whatever I so desire, and all that shit, and being like real, like a real asshole towards our Nami and the rest of them. And then um, as soon as Luffy Solos tears gonna rolling down Nami's eyes, he was like, Oh, hell no, you don't fuck up now. I'm being your ass. And after that, it went to Log Town where you know the Uh birthplace of Gold Roger. Well, not that birthplace. Well, it was his birthplace too, but he was also executed there. So, you know, they meet these new challenges and they get ready to go into the grand line. That was pretty much the East Blue Sug in a nutshell. But um, we can go back and go um back one by one. Uh I know we kind of already talked about the romance arc a little bit, you know, kind of open set up the case with that. Same thing with Orange Town, really. But um, y'all got anything to add on to the syrup village arc?
Usopp And The Going Merry Love
SPEAKER_06With uh the one with Uso being introduced and all that.
SPEAKER_01I do have a little thing into it. Um being their first uh official ship that they have.
SPEAKER_06Uh the going marriage. It hurts. Oh, yeah. No, no, we weren't gonna talk about it yet, but yeah.
SPEAKER_01But the iconic ship. And there's so much that goes into this because you don't understand how much like you guys do. Like if you're not uh if you haven't if you haven't really seen further than the east and you think that Usopp is kind of doing the most about this ship, no, this is he he absolutely loves the ship. The ship is a is an iconic thing for him. It's not just about him being a pirate, but this is his first actual ship as well, too. This is based on a longtime friend. This is he he's very big about the ship. Every time the ship takes damage, he's quick to try to repair it. Um this is also one of those ones I like about uh this art because it really showcases well, it doesn't showcase, it's a good starting point to understand that Usopp is a mechanical genius. And is one of those ones that you don't you don't pay as much attention to it until a little bit later on. But like you had mentioned before, you know, uh Nami is becoming such a great weather god, that's because Usopp did a fucking fantastic job creating that pole. Like everything that he did in building that, his upgrades for just doing a simple slingshot to being, even at this point, not necessarily faster than a gun, not faster than a bullet, but the fact that he keeps making improvements. He learns and keeps making improvements over and over again. Um it's like this this is a good starting point to understand that he was limited on this island and he finally got the chance to venture free and really be able to do something. The only thing that hurts me the most.
unknownUh-huh.
SPEAKER_06Oh, I was saying it would just make so much sense. I'm not the crew sniper, but like uh, you know, on the side, like, hey man, why don't you be like the crew's like gunsmith? Like create uh like producer like these different guns for the um straw has to use, you know, like case of certain situations that come up.
SPEAKER_01Technically, he does kind of do that a little bit later, but no, that's what I'm saying.
SPEAKER_06Like instead of just calling the sniper, we just call him a gunsmith.
SPEAKER_01That part. Well, soft doesn't like using guns.
SPEAKER_06Oh, it's a big thing about it. My bad, man. Does not like this that's he's he uh more like into the uh swingshot type thing, but you know, that's fair enough. Allows him to still do range, but he absolutely got Frankie, so we do have Frankie. But we're gonna talk about him later.
SPEAKER_01Sure. But um, I also like into this one because it again, like I said, it showcases for that moment of people to be like, you could be great here, but you have to venture out. And Usopp, okay, let's go ahead and solve this right here. I'm gonna ask you guys, let's be straightforward here. Is Usopp black? Are we gonna say he is, or are we not gonna say he is?
SPEAKER_06Oh none but the hood exactly.
SPEAKER_01Okay, because here's the thing some people have been trying to say stuff about, especially about the whole his dad leaving, and I'm like, don't you dare.
SPEAKER_07Don't you dare. Oh, while we while we joke about Usopp being black and everything else, a lot of people do, a lot of people joke about him being black. However, comma, I want to be understood, right? Usopp would be considered an islander, as much as a lot of them are, Usopp would be considered an islander. Um however, we're gonna claim him in the black community. Just saying, just but yeah, Usopp is an actual island.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, like so, not really black, but more, you know, you were thinking like because with okay. If y'all think about with the lips, I'm like, first of all, shame on you.
SPEAKER_01Uh the lips, the dad leaving is so many jokes, and I'm sitting here like, don't y'all do this, don't y'all do this.
SPEAKER_06Uh-uh. I mean, I know if y'all say with the do regular, okay, fine. Uh with in the hair and whatnot, okay, I'll give y'all that. But don't do something about that though. Because it's already bad enough to where, like, recently they're just now um like trying to take ass in against that. Like, I'm hearing that somewhere where like um some folks were like having a cow about that now to where can we talk about how the way um Japanese folks have been drawing um the lips on the um dark skin characters, and how we were um saying in the bleach stream review how uh illustrated black characters, and I'm like, bro, look, little take notes from Taite Kubo where that's how you made black anime characters.
SPEAKER_01And it was a fighting anime I know we had talked about before, I cannot remember the title for some weird reason, but it was a fighting anime we actually did a podcast for uh early last year, and I had mentioned that the black character there was very well drawn. Um, there was no like pink circle lips, it was not no black face lips, it was actually he he looked like an anime black person, and so it's like there are manga cut that actually know how to draw people of different races and draw them well, so it's like there are some that just don't. If you can't, that's one thing, but if you're purposely doing it to be rude, that's a whole nother thing, yeah.
SPEAKER_06So, like I said, he's not black, but the hooded seven go, you know, you know, he's cool.
SPEAKER_01All right, yeah, but I got you. That was just a question, but that's all I got as far as into that island. Um, okay, it was nice getting a chance. Uh oh well, I guess the only other thing is too. Um, did we like the cat crew? The cat scratch crew? Uh the finger blades, the finger sword. Honestly, the way he, I'm not gonna lie to you though. That's the only thing for four kids that I was like, I I for a long time I started adjusting my glasses that same way. I never used my fingers, I used my palm and just been like, uh, gotta adjust my glasses real quick.
SPEAKER_07Okay, so with him, he could have been done so much better. I'm gonna but at the same time, I I like the idea of it, like, yes, they're cat pirates. And don't get me wrong, and this is also for you, Copatsu, when you get to uh Marine Ford, when you get to the actual Marine Ford art, you're gonna see why I say they could have done him so better, because there are a set of brothers that you will love that I probably that do the cat things so much better. I promise you they do.
SPEAKER_02So you'll you'll see why I may have no of them. I may know of them, but yeah, I need to get you actually watching it. So I got you. So that's that's why I say like legit.
SPEAKER_07Ooh, ooh, they could have given so much better.
SPEAKER_06Man, I'm telling y'all, uh we say, like, honestly, I'm gonna say like uh En's lobby was the one art that made me log in on One Piece for real. But by the time you get the Marine 4, that's when everybody logs in when you get the Marine 4. But yeah. Um what was the
Baratie Highlights And Don Krieg Threat
SPEAKER_06next one? Uh it was the Barody uh art where you know they were on the floating restaurant and they would need some food, they were looking for a cook as well. And then next thing you know, the Don Creed pirates um showing up causing trouble and shit. And there was this whole situation, and I think Sanjay was like, uh, I guess pirates at one point, but then you know, he um Goopy and the gang helping them out, and like, yeah, you know, I guess I'll go with you if I don't the old man wants me to go with you, want me to go with you, you know. And you know, I kind of old uh old man for what he did for me, um, saving my life and all that shit. It was a solid art. Um you want to add anything on to that?
SPEAKER_07I mean, I kind of said what I said about Don Creek already, so like majority of okay, with the Don Creek situation, I don't want folks to understand that was the toughest thing for Luffy and them to ever have seen at that point. Most pirates who literally would have literally would have heard of Don Creek and just like you know been like, okay, wait a minute. So Don Creek went here and he got whooped. There's no way I'm going here if he got whooped. Most folks would have back down and left.
SPEAKER_06And that's how by the end of the East Blue saga, Blueby became the first dude in the East Blue that had like 30 million on his head. And I was like, oh shit, this boy doing something. He took out Dog Creek and Orlung and all of them. I'm like, fuck, what is he doing over there? Popping off for real. Like these drawheads must be, they might be something. We might need um what was the boys, you know what I'm saying?
SPEAKER_01The monster wasn't it also at this point that we found out that um Garp was Luffy's grandpa, or no?
SPEAKER_02No, no, no, no, that was a little bit that's way too early. I mean, we're way too early to that right now. Shh, yeah. My bad. I'm thinking about the live action. But live action spoiled that ahead of time in the east school. Yes, they did.
SPEAKER_07Live action spoiled that way later.
SPEAKER_06That's why I'm like, that's why that would piss me off by the live action where they cut corn to a point where I'm like, whoa, whoa, hold on. You don't know about that till way later in the anime. Like, oh man, like by the time you really find out Loopy's um family tree and all that shit, I'm like, bro. You're gonna have to trap in because he uh it's gonna be a while before you. But yes. Yeah. Um, so that was the bar to art. Uh um, Coca, do you have anything you add on before we get to the next one?
SPEAKER_01No, because I'm I'm realizing that I'm starting to mix up the live action with the anime, and I don't want to do that.
Arlong Park Hate And Payoff
SPEAKER_06All right, the R long art. Now, Rlong, man, let me tell you. I was thinking like when I was watching the anime, right? I was thinking like that can't be a motherfucker worse than the last guy I just watched, right? It kept impressing me with how you found a more despicable motherfucker for me to hate. Yeah, I couldn't stand Arlong's ass. I was like, God, this dude fucking ruthless. Like, I thought um fucking Buggy and Don Creek was ruthless, like sacrificed his own men to fucking um save their own ass. But this dude is like fucking ruthless with it. I'm like, Jesus Christ. But yeah, for the most part, you know, like Whoopi did his thing, like he rolled up on Arlone, uh, got tired of all his shit, especially the way he was treated on me, you know. He got shit robbed, and that was more or less um Arlone Park art, but uh, and oh yeah, not if he officially joins the crew after that, because you know, I don't fuck with Arlon anymore. Now that you know I'm out of his dead and whatnot, he already got beat, so I don't have to worry about it anymore. So, you know, I'll I'll roll with y'all for the time being, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Uh we can say the fact that their navigator was Zoro and Luffy, who always gets lost.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I mean, I'm like that's fair because eventually they're gonna need somebody to like read these maps and like know where to fucking go. So it was only a matter of time before they needed a navigator.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, like legit, it was just I promise
Anime First And Why Filler Matters
SPEAKER_07you. Like, with some of this stuff, with some of this stuff, I if for those of y'all that want to get into it, I know some of y'all are like, okay, this is crazy. This is why I'm gonna tell you right now, I wouldn't watch live action. Live action is great. Don't get me wrong, I'm not telling you not to watch live action, but you want to know it in order, in the right order, go with the anime first. Go with the anime first. Live action does tell you some stuff, it gives you snippet skips around and tell you everything else so that way you're like, oh, ooh, I know some of it, I know the general synopsis, because that's basically how I see live action shit, the general synopsis of things. But I'm going to tell you up front, and this is coming off the desk of the manager. You want to watch this. I'm not even gonna tell you skip filler. Why? Because yeah, no, because at this current at your current point in time, yes, you can skip some filler, but the filler makes the show.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. See, that's my main thing why I love one piece of air. When I see One Piece, I'm thinking this is an anime that's really about the journey. We were like, you kind of don't want one piece of in because it's just such a spectacle to see it running for so long, even though, yes, we already said that there were like um shows that ran for way longer. But at this point, it's like we just want the journey to just keep on going, where we see these characters like keep on developing, keep um fighting, and all that. We we just love for what it is. And I know we said that where it's like sometimes uh even good things come to an end, but that's just the spirit of One Piece. It's different with One Piece because it's the spirit of it. It's like it's not about the journey, it's the destination where you think like, oh, yeah, eventually it's gonna get the One Piece. And yes, there were statements saying, like, no, no, no, we ain't gonna do that bullshit to where, like, oh, it's not real. No, no, there is a real thing, it's like just wait until we get there. But for the time being, you know, just enjoy the journey. That's the point. Enjoy the journey, and you also get to see all these backstories and why these characters are the way they are, from Nami to Usopp to Sandy and Zoro to the degree, you know, what he doing is training and whatnot. Like, you see why these characters are the way they are, even Luffy with his little backstory, like you get more of it later on. But still, though, it's like you won't be able to um feel nothing for these characters if you don't re watch the fucking filler. You're not gonna understand unless you watch the filler. That's all I can say. Um well, yeah, with Arlong or uh I said what I said about it. But uh, y'all got anything else y'all wanna add on to that one, that one bit?
SPEAKER_07No, no, no, no. Not at all. Especially not not especially with the Arlong. With Arlong situation, Arlong got what he deserved. That's all I said. Y'all looking for it. Arlong did, Arlon did.
SPEAKER_01Now this one, this one won't be so bad if I if I do wind up mixing up some live action into this one because live action did a really good job with Arlong. Um, even for what I do remember, like this one actually was one that did a pretty good job with. Uh it being that moment of Luffy almost died, almost drowned with the concrete on his feet. And it was just like that moment of understanding that you know, you hear about it all the time about the weakness of the devil fruit, but finally getting the opportunity to like no, you're finally witnessing what's happening right now. Luffy is stuck. He had to be there's that moment that is important to have a crew. You can't do this by yourself. It has to be a team effort, it has to be you guys working together to put things together because Luffy would have died, straight up died in that war. And he was willing to. He was willing to because that's how much you care for Nami. But it's that moment of also just like, yeah, like really kind of settling into that understanding of okay, this is what it means to get a pirate. You're constantly putting your life at risk.
SPEAKER_06Can I just say when you know that whole um power of friendship, you know, um family dynamic that uh kind of gets that trope that kind of gets um overplayed, at least with One Piece, they do it in a way that's kind of refreshing to where it's like they're not in your face about the power of friendship or whatnot, because each of these characters can stand on their own. They all bring something to the table to where like they're not all totally um powerless without each other, like they can handle their own, but at the same time, they're even better as a crew. That's why when you like you see these foes, it's like they're in their separate bubbles at some point, you know, when we get later on to the anime where they could be in their separate bubbles, but they are who they are. But when you see the fucking straw hat pirates pulling up anywhere, I'm like, wait a minute, all of them in one spot. I'm like, oh hell no. Let's get the fuck out of here because I'm not because every time the show had pirates on camera, like not to say that they're the bad guys, but think of it like uh the main cast from The Walking Dead, because you know, whenever they pull up anywhere, something is about to pop off. But yeah, all I'm saying is like with these characters, yeah, each of them brings something to the table to where they don't they're not weak unless they have someone with them, but at the same time, it's like I like how they're not very annoying about how oh we need friends. No, no, no. Like um it's like they're units on their own, but they're even stronger as a whole crew. That's all I'm saying. Kind of like with pretty much all the crew members. Well, not all crew members, but um and the other crews where you have all these different um people where yeah, they got a bounty on their head on their own, but when they are with their crew, there's like oh shit, ah shit, and especially imagine if the whole worst generation was in one spot. Shit. And you see that later on in uh anime, but I'm just saying, like, I'm just glad that they don't really run that whole power of friendship crap into the ground in One Piece, where it's like, yeah, we we cool, we friends and whatnot, but I'm like, we kind of uh we ain't like those where it was like, oh, we got a tag team um just to be y'all. Nah, we'll go run the phase on one 1v1. Like, we'll run the ones on you.
SPEAKER_01It's so funny that you say this concerned about what it is that we're about to review next. Foreshadowing. Yeah, yeah.
Loguetown Wrap And Watch It Pitch
SPEAKER_06But um, that's pretty much all I got. Um, and freelance law time what it was like, you know, they did visit and play that um Gold Roger um was executed and whatnot, but that was just pretty much uh epilogue to the East Blue Saga to where now Luffy got a bag on his head. Um, y'all got any closing statements?
SPEAKER_07Um, yeah. My my first thing is simply put, ladies and gentlemen, pick it up.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, pick up that manga.
SPEAKER_07I'm gonna promote it. You're gonna hear me tell you wholeheartedly because I'm not gonna skip you wrong in this. Believe me, if it's bad, I'm gonna tell you it's bad. I am not the type of person that's going to just promote something because you ain't oh no, they're getting money off of it. We ain't getting money off this.
SPEAKER_06No, they're doing it for the love of the game.
SPEAKER_07So I want you to know wholeheartedly, right? Watch One Piece, read one piece if you want, if you must. Hell, if you want to see it as a video game, because they have several play video games, but I'm telling you, watch one piece. East Blue is just one of the one of the good parts, like legit. You're gonna like in any anime, especially when it starts off, as long as it's been, it starts off slow. I ain't gonna sit here and tell you that it doesn't start off, it gives you some good action points. Don't get me wrong, not to sit there and say it, but it does start off slow. But every anime does that, and it's gonna get better.
SPEAKER_06And once again, if you want to feel something for these characters, you have to read, you gotta look at the filler because, like, that's how you understand why they are the way they are, why we love each and every one of them for their own reasons. Like, when we keep telling y'all about these backstories, I'm like, yeah, because they are actual characters on their own, they're not just filling up a slot to where it's like, oh, loopy needs uh a first mate and a cook and a musician, whatnot. No, he ain't just saying that, just saying that like they just fill up a slot. No, they are like actual characters, and there's episodes dedicated to having them have character development, so they are their own characters, you know.
SPEAKER_07That part.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. Um, Cookie has you got any hold on tell us where you finish?
SPEAKER_07I'm done. I'm done.
SPEAKER_06Okay, okay, cool, cool. Cooky guys, you got any closing things.
SPEAKER_01I guess the only thing I'm closing into is like, yeah, like I like I told y'all before, this is the only one that I've seen, and it's the only one I've seen thus far. Clearly, I'm gonna be picking up and watching more. Um, I've had a lot of it's more for me, but even with it, it's still one of those ones that even if you're also like me, all my friends seen it, they told me all about it, I pretty much know it and stuff like that. Still go watch it. Because I I've so much of the things that I've seen, like I've seen some of the fight sequences, like even YouTube and stuff, and it's like, hey, that fight seemed pretty cool. I wonder what led to it, and that's all it takes. It's that one little thought process of I wonder what led to them having to have this going out, and then them saying, like, yeah, this is this right here is the fight that we needed, because it's been a long-term thing. They've been going at it for so long, they had this rivalry for so long. We finally get a chance to really see how this plays out. And I'm like, oh, okay, okay. So I'm like, maybe we'll go check this out. We go see what's going on. Like, yeah, even if you're like me, just give it a chance. You know, if it if you pick it up, it still doesn't work for you, then it still doesn't work for you. Um, I'm gonna pray for you, because I hope it does. If it doesn't work for you, it doesn't work for you, but at least give it a try. It's going to wind up, it's not even gonna be like, oh, it's gonna be absolutely changing your life. Again, it doesn't have to do that. Sometimes it's just it's nice to enjoy something. And that's what we're here for. We're zealous of nerd entertainment. We are here, we enjoy it, we want you to enjoy it, that's where we at, you know.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, it's like same thing with on the live actions where I'm like, hey, uh, it's good that y'all enjoy it for what it is. Same thing with me with the anime where I love it for what it is, but like it's not for everybody, and I'm not saying like trying to exclude anybody, it's just more like let's just be real. If somebody straight up told me, hey, yo, I'm just not feeling it, like I gave it a fair shake, but I'm just not feeling it. I'm like, hey man, like I'm not holding a gun to your head about it. Like if you didn't want to like it, you don't want to keep watching it, you don't have to. Like, I'm not gonna force you, you know. But hey, you know, that's why I'm saying, like, in the beginning, where at the end of the day, one piece deserves two hours, where there uh there's some go there's gonna be some fans that don't like it, and there's gonna be a bunch of fans that obviously do like it, and we're just those fans that's telling you why we like it. That's all it is at the end of the day. So that being said, I'm pretty much done. It's been Jeff Black Stream and the boys doing another review. We will be doing the Alabaster saga and maybe um kind of like sandwiching the Sky Island and maybe War Seven Light. I know there are like some parts that are like not that very long, but we'll let y'all know when we get to part two. But until the next one, go ahead and take it easy, and we'll be right back with part two.
New Guest And Why We Commit
SPEAKER_06Alright, continuing the One Piece Extreme Review with the Alabash of Art, the Gaia Art, and the Skype of Art. And joining me this time around is Tenora. Before we get into it for real, uh Tenara, I know you haven't been on for the other season, so if you want to, you can tell us all about how you feel about the characters, like the Straw Hack crew so far, like leading up to Chop Heart being the newest edition and the arcs that those characters go through leading up to Alabaza. How you feel about One Piece in general?
SPEAKER_00Well, obviously, you know, I love it. My first my first ever tattoo was uh it was Nami's tattoo, the pinwheel with the uh tangerine. And um it's like yeah, so obviously, you know, I really love One Piece. And you s I I feel like you sort of have to love One Piece in order to commit to it, considering what we're like uh over 1100 episodes at this point. So it's like you I feel like you definitely gotta love it at least somewhat to be able to commit to that. So um but yeah, no, it's like I love you know the characters and whatnot and chopper. I'm I'm a little concerned. I mean, the design for the live action, I'm like I'm curious how they're gonna do that. Like they've shown like the you know, the design for him, and it's it's like it's cute, but there's also something about it that I'm like, mmm. I'm like, it's it it's it's not it doesn't look like chopper. I mean it looks like chopper, but it just it looks off. Like I feel like the chopper that we have in the anime is more round, like rounded than the one we're getting for the live action. But it's like I just I I I love Chopper, he's just adorable and his whole you know hiding the wrong way thing and not able to take compliments and just he's just adorable. So I'm very glad he has joined the crew at this point and whatnot. And um yeah, no, I I mean like like you said, I I didn't I didn't I missed the the first ones, so it's like I don't want to you know take up all that much time for that, but just like yeah, no, definitely lots of stuff, like it's yeah, it's good. Definitely love it.
SPEAKER_05Happily now in the previous part, I made it a point to where it seems like the villain. It seems like every time it's a new part, it's always the villain square. Oh, and I hear I thought I was eating the last motherfucker. This motherfucker here.
Alabasta Stakes And Crocodile Scheme
SPEAKER_05Alright, let's get into Alabaster. So, you know that we see the princess of Alabaster and they're trying to take back their nation brought cross war that is under the leadership of Mr. Zero, but we know it better as Crocodile, who's one of the Civil Warlords of C. And they infiltrate they infiltrate the Alabasta.
SPEAKER_06Like they get in there, they get in disguise, they don't want to make sure they attract their wrong attention, especially from guys like number two Bon Clay. Like, okay, first of all, I like I really like Mr. Two, especially the little moment that they had before International Alabaster's where they didn't know each other, so Mr.
unknownQ didn't know they were uh he would fuck around with the straw hat that they didn't know that that was Mr. Two.
SPEAKER_05So he was able to bomb with them and he's able to touch them, and he's able to disguise himself as all the straw hats. So that makes it even more useful to go up against especially when he bought Zondi and he took advantage of Zondi um things where he took the women, so he kept gnommy every now and then. Yeah, it's like that was that was a dick move, man.
SPEAKER_00But yeah, I know, uh I still tear up every time. That's like, I mean, you know when go what happens. It's like like uh oh man. Yeah, we'll we'll get to it, but yeah, no, it's like definitely love love on clay. I guess it um I do I do actually like crocodile. Like, obviously, you know, real thick move with everything he's doing, trying to start that civil war and shit, but like I do, I do actually like crocodile, especially later on. Um but yeah, it's it definitely is not not one of my least favorite villains. Right.
SPEAKER_06I mean he's compelling as a villain to where he's kind of got where you thought Arlong was valid. Oh no, like Crocodile is like, okay, he not only is trying to he's dominating Alifasta, but he's also trying to figure out a part of which with the help of Miss Paul Sunday, who we know as far as you're off the buttons looking at uh he's trying to uncover uh this weapon of mass destruction, these level islands and whatnot, and that just feels like a hint they foreshadow towards bigger things, like we're gonna get to it way later, but we're talking like voice entry type shit.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so yep, I was saying because the the one he was looking for was Pluton, right? Right, yeah, and it's like, and that was you know the whole reason he had Nico, uh Robin, was for reading that and finding it. Like, but yeah, no, he was, you know, I mean, the people of the country, you know, were they loved him. He, you know, he was their hero and whatnot, but you know, behind the scenes and all that shit, it's like mmm, mmm, buddy.
How Crocodile Fights And Why It Works
SPEAKER_05Now hold on, let me talk about Crocodile one more. I like how with Crocodile, he reminds me of Gara with his sand powers, but what makes him even more dangerous to me is his power of dehydration. Like, it's almost like imagine Gaara use dehydration on his enemies. Like, that would be cool as hell.
SPEAKER_06But the way Crocodile was using his powers was great, and also he was responsible for making sure that there was no water in Alabasta just to make him even more powerful, and it took that little bit of water that Luffy got from the old man. Um, with the old man having that much trust in the king to have a hero come and liberate Alabasta, Luffy used that water to be able to punch Crocodile because remember the first round, like, it's funny because Crocodile should be that one fight to where, oh shit, like this should be like a foreshadowing two shit to where he might fight um villains that he's not gonna easily be like uh Kaido. Like, oh god damn. Like, how many fucking rounds did he go up against Kaido? Anyway, uh we'll get to that.
SPEAKER_00Um and like like with Smoker as well, you know, because he can turn smoke. It's a little hard to punch smoke. It's like with the sand, you know, he was like you said, he was able to use the water, but it's like there's gonna be people where it's gonna be, you know, it's gonna be harder and harder to you know be able to actually defeat them.
SPEAKER_05Or survive.
SPEAKER_06Luckily second time around, he did, he was able to overcome it all and bring Rain back. But I know we're definitely ahead, but it's also the fight between Zoro and Mr. One, uh Nani and Miss Doublefinger and True Sup and Chopper was fighting on somebody, like yeah, the the um the mole lady and the bat guy.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I yeah, I think so many of them.
SPEAKER_00We clearly don't care about them all that much.
SPEAKER_05I mean, not all of them, like some of them are memorable, some of them not so much, but um, but what is memorable is Chopper using the rumble balls in his uh different forms, and I'm like, oh shit, okay, okay. That's cool, that's cool.
SPEAKER_00But uh damn but his monster form, uh man.
SPEAKER_06Like, see, that's why I say in the previous part where honestly the throttle half, all of them are whole units by themselves. Like, even Nami's where she gets um the weather staff, and eventually she's able to master it to a point to where like yeah, she like zap and all that, and she eventually gets Zeus and Holk. I don't know, we'll get that, but these like yeah.
SPEAKER_05Can these guys can fight? Like, no, there's not a single useless character on this creek.
SPEAKER_00Everybody I mean, everyone always calls Chopper, Nami, and Usopp the weakling trio and or the scared trio, but it's like they when it comes down to it, they they can do what they need to do and do it well. Bro, look God Usa, I believe God Usa, I'm just saying Yup, like, oh my gosh, yeah, that picture for that just beat him blood. But yeah, no, it's like if if it weren't for him, Doris Rosa would have gotten much different, but that's further down the road. Um but yeah, and even with with him teaming it teaming up with Chopper and using Chopper's horns as his slingshot to you know take out those two, whatever the heck their names were. Um yeah, it's like no, that that was a good team. I was like, but but yeah, no, even those that ever called the weak tree, I was like, nah, they they can they can handle themselves. They they are survivors, they're they can do what they need to do. Right.
SPEAKER_06And I'm definitely gonna talk about this up a little bit more when we get to what's uh Enid's lobby. Oh man, Enid's lobby, that's the one part that really heavy locked and rebel against that later.
SPEAKER_00I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm probably gonna be wider on that one. But uh I do gotta Robin is definitely my favorite, so that one hit hard. I was like, oh god.
SPEAKER_06Oh god, like we'll get to it like that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_06Like two of my favorite moments pass into like what like one or two episodes?
SPEAKER_08Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_06Um anyways, uh Alabaster.
Vivi Farewell And Allies Everywhere
SPEAKER_06Aside from all that being said, uh Alabaster's been liberated. Uh Vivi, who's like this unofficial, well, she she is a straw hat, we can consider her straw hat, but she's not like part of the main crew.
unknownLike her main thing was to liberate her um country, and now that that's done, she needs to stay there and secure it.
SPEAKER_06So the straw hat gotta say goodbye, but they did that uh salute with the like beautiful bottom.
SPEAKER_00So they would know it's them, not you know, bond clay and stuff. That that whole like they don't say anything, they just raise their arms and it's like let me see your poor arm, boy. And it's just like she's like, you know, she knew where she belongs. She's like, this I belong here at home, helping my people and stuff. And it's like, yeah, that that makes sense. Like, as fun as adventure is is like unfortunately, you know, there are responsibilities, and she is a princess of a country, so like she knew she knew where her responsibilities lie, where her heart really lied was there with her country and her people.
unknownRight.
SPEAKER_05But what I love about it is the here's my thing you know about dynasty warriors, right?
SPEAKER_00About what?
SPEAKER_05Dynasty Warriors.
SPEAKER_00I do not know that one, no.
SPEAKER_06Okay, uh, it's a whole bunch of video games where it's about, you know, the Han Dynasty, you know, wars and whatnot between the um thing. But here's the thing. Um reason why I'm bringing that up is every now and then there's like a spin-off uh pop culture version of it.
SPEAKER_05So there's one for say Moses Gundam, there's one for Legend of Zelda, you know, uh what do you call? Hyper Warriors, right? Uh it's pretty much a dynasty warriors very One Piece has one, I'm pretty sure it does.
SPEAKER_06But the main thing is, it's the one game that makes the most sense to have that kind of play style, you know, where you're like going around, uh going to different islands, trying to liberate the island from this evil motherfucker that's uh trying to like assert their dominance and whatnot, and you make new friends there, like, and eventually it's almost like you're dominating the whole world by making friends with the right people and taking out the guy that's the main problem. So it's like in a way, I like that the baby guy stays there, so it's not like um the straw has like took over Alabaster, but in a way, it's like the straw has got allies in so many different places, like eventually you get to, like say uh Benjamin Island, Dress Rosa, and whatnot, where they liberated all these different places from these bad guys to a point where the straw has to have allies everywhere to where they you might as well say they took over the world by making new friends.
SPEAKER_00I mean, and that's you know what um uh Rayleigh was like, you know, this kid has what it takes, he has that presence that brings people over to his side, and it's like that's you know important if you want to, you know, be king of the pirates.
SPEAKER_06I mean, the dude didn't deserve a whole grand for nothing.
SPEAKER_00Oh god, the grand is what you need. Yeah, it's like no, it's it's you know, it's about that that you know being able to bring people over to to your side basically. Like oh he just has that that that I don't want to call it a power, but it basically it's basically a power, but like that's it's just yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_06Oh, but once again, when we get to Enz lobby, it really set the tone for what One Piece is really about, like clothes, like there's like an undertone, you know, for the whole voice and you're like uncovering the mystery, like you know, the whole egghead island uh um thing going on with um vague upon telling what he was saying, but we'll get to that eventually.
One Piece Themes And Real-World Impact
SPEAKER_06But what I'm getting at is that people think like, oh, it's just a whole bunch of pirates looking for the one piece. Oh no, there's more to it than that. It's not only that, but it's uncovering the mysteries that's been setting up these events, but also it's about overthrowing a world comp with a tonar in recent times. I heard that in Indonesia the citizens are raising straw head pirate flags as protests against their government.
SPEAKER_00I've I've I've seen stuff of that, yeah. Yep, it's like, yeah, no, it's become, you know, I mean it's it's well known all over the world, and it's it's yeah, that's yeah.
SPEAKER_06So you gotta understand that there's like way more to one piece that people are giving it credit for, but they're talking about, oh well, it's too long.
unknownOh, the artist done. Uh uh.
SPEAKER_06I swear to God, the world building, the care, the development, the way uh God older set things up. I swear to God, it's worth it if you lock in.
SPEAKER_00Mm-hmm. It's like, oh, yeah, it's it's it's just a whole, yeah. I word, I can't even, you know, find the words. It's it is yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_05Okay.
Ace Returns And Favorite Alabasta Moments
SPEAKER_05Alabaster orc gone.
SPEAKER_00Wait, hold up, hold up. I was very excited to see Ace again when we got to Alabasta when we got to hang out with stuff and fucking love Ace and just yeah.
SPEAKER_05I'm gonna take this right now.
SPEAKER_06It should have been I should have known because keep in mind that I was watching one piece back, it was brand new to the States, but I kind of dropped it after, like, say I once that I definitely got past Alabasta. Like I'm gonna say I got right up to uh yeah, I think it was like guy peeled in that area where it was on television, but you know, life happens, different shows, different things going on. I just kind of fell off that point. But you know, I kind of picked it back up. I got current, but my point being is that in a technical sense, I should have known that with Ace, he would have begun what I like to call the older brother, the cool older brother curse. Because you notice how it's always the cool older brother, where it's like why, why him, why?
SPEAKER_08Mm-hmm, mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_06Like, I mean, I can say it right now because everybody knows Ringoku, cool older brother type figure.
SPEAKER_05Why him of all people?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, always, always that cool.
SPEAKER_06Like, no, I was in straight up to lose it. I was like, no, no, no. You're gonna get up, right? Like, you're gonna get you a little bit like we're gonna take him back to the uh Venus Clinton.
SPEAKER_04He's gonna be alright, he's gonna be alright.
SPEAKER_00And seeing him actually interacting with the crew like that because that was I'm trying to remember, was that the first time the crew had actually met him? I think, yeah. So like they, you know, and pretty sure they knew who he was before that, but they just didn't know they hadn't met him, and they didn't know this is Luffy's brother and stuff, and it's like all their reactions to it was just like, oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_06Honestly, definitely take it with my family for every time uh people are saying like introducing my older brother, my older sister, my younger sister, and they're like, Wait, you got to relate it?
SPEAKER_00I'm like, mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yep. And also, I just wanted to touch on on uh Zorro's fight with uh Mr. That was Mr. Mr. One One, okay. Yeah, what the way he you know came up with how to defeat him was like damn dude. Fucking like he and it's just like the you know his process of trying to you know get it figured out and then succeeding and defeating the guy. It's like fucking cutting what was it, steel or what it what was this thing again, iron? I don't remember um what metal type it was, but like yeah, it's like damn like that boy is well on his way to his goal. I mean, he's not part of the monster trio for nothing, like exactly you got weakening trio, and then there's the monte trio, but like you know, that's just talking about the monster trio just reminded me of you know in in uh the little garden when Sanji was talking to Crocodile on the Den Den Mushi, and um and then when Crocodile meets him again in Alabas, not knowing or meets him for the first time in Alabasa, not knowing he was him, and he hears the voice, and he's like, wait a second, it's like I've just seen so many like memes with that where it's like um it just like he's with the straw house for some reason and Sanji's talking and and he just has like the gears turning in Crocodile's head, and then he like turns to Sanji and he's like, excuse you, it's like it's like and just oh man, and the you know, when they got when uh crocodile got Smoker, um uh Zorro and Luffy all stuck in in the the you know the uh sea prism cage and stuff, and starts flooding the place, and like Sunji's coming. It's like I'm I'm just remembering all this stuff as we're talking and stuff, and it's just like oh my god.
SPEAKER_06Right, it's all flooding back to you. Like I told you before we get started, like as soon as I get to the play by a play, you're gonna remember everything.
SPEAKER_00Exactly. That's why I was like, yep, that is that is what needs to happen, because otherwise it's like I don't remember. It's like that's and like you said, it's all flooding back. It's like oh, this part and that part and all these parts. But yeah, it's like, oh my gosh. But yeah, so it's just all right. I think I think that's that's all. Well, and then the the uh uh what are they called? The the do do gongs or whatever, Luffy's uh apostles now. I feel like that they should be counted as the first part of his whole um uh the um his the first part of his fleet. Like he he really gets it after the Dresserosa, but it's like nah. It started with those two gongs. Right. But yeah, alright. I think I think that's I think I'm good to move on now. Alrighty,
Jaya To Skypiea And Dream Talk
SPEAKER_00alright.
SPEAKER_06Now let's talk about Giant and Skypia. Now, the whole point of them going to Giant Slash Skypea is to uncover El Dorado, and the thing is that I take the draw hat pirates to disguise, exploring the mysterious island of Skypea, uh, delving into themes of exploration, conflict, and adventure, of course, of course. Now, once we get up there, because keep in mind there's like trying to figure out between these two different maps that combine they show El Dorado and what's really going on with both of these islands, so to speak. And there's this whole uh conflict between the Skypeans and the Shanians who are fighting over the islands, land their resources, and at the heart of it all, it's this powerful, tyrannical, um self-proclaimed God um Enel or Inero, depending on how you want to pronounce it.
SPEAKER_05And um, buddy.
SPEAKER_06Maybe I need to do my research again, but like I'm trying to figure out is this intense or not where he made Enel look like Eminem.
SPEAKER_00I've heard that it was slightly intentional. It might might have been, you know, someone pulling, you know, pulling a leg, but I've heard that it that it was intentional.
SPEAKER_06Because bro, like it was crazy like what the Durag went out. I'm like, yeah, it's kind of hard not to see that. But the thing with you now is that he it's not that he's a god, he's just that he has a double fruit, and he's probably like one of the only people to have one, but his double fruit is powerful enough to yeah, like he can command lightning and whatnot. But like, I think the funniest part about the whole thing about Sky is the fact that all that build up we did to the um email, where it's like, yeah, he's like this powerful um type of person where he dominates people that beneath them, he humiliates them, and he moron is them and all that other shit, and get all this type kind of like with the other villains where it's like you're hyping this villain up to like this big deal.
SPEAKER_05But if you paid attention to science class, we would know that uh electricity don't do well against rubber, and the fact that this dude came from a place that never knew what rubber is, I'm like, alright, sit this out.
SPEAKER_06Wait a unit, like you're gonna like this guy.
SPEAKER_00I love uh when he first shocks and lips, it's just like what was that? Was that what? That that face that that an L had that came, they put that face on everything now for any shock situation. Like, I every time I see it's like, oh look, it's an Ann L's face.
SPEAKER_06It was really funny, and of course, in One Piece Fashion when uh Lucy does defeat Anel. Now I'm not trying to tease in the whole fight, like yeah, there was like some stakes involved with uh Inel tried to use his weakness, um try to, you know, overcome the weakness, but you know, Lucy's still won, of course. But uh I like how the symbolism with Luffy's shadow being in the sky would represent uh they thought that they were just like giants in the sky at first, but it turns out oh that was just Pen Skype um just in the clouds, and uh shadows just cast it over the clouds. I thought that was pretty cool, but um, you know, in typical One Piece fashion that the draw had pirates defeating them and his people. But meanwhile, while this was happening, Nico Robin was doing her like secret mission, trying to uncover the secrets of the island's past with opponent was and trying to figure out what's going on. Like I said before with the Voice Sentry. Yeah, I like how there were like two different plots going together as well. See, that's the thing where you got the main action, of course, but then you have the subplot that sets up the world building for later on. So I just don't understand how people can say like all young is boring, but like bro, like are you not paying attention to what's going on?
SPEAKER_00And the the one ponyter in Sky in Skypia, that's the one that Roger wrote on, wasn't it?
SPEAKER_06Right, is the one where Robert was like, wait a minute, how do you note this text? Like she was like the one with like the equation where uh flying right here. I'm like, Oh my god, yup.
SPEAKER_00It's like yeah, no. But um maybe just jump back a bit, jump back to to what's it called, Jaya?
Bellamy Punch And Blackbeard Quote
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_00Just because they're um, you know, we meet Bellamy there, and obviously in in this part he's a dick. I do end up liking him later on, but like in this one, he's just, you know, they're talking about, you know, the Sky Island and stuff.
SPEAKER_04I just don't like you, I don't like your face.
SPEAKER_00It's a very it is a very punchable face.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00But but it's like he just, you know, they're talking about Skypea or the Sky Island, and and he's just like, oh, chasing after dreams, blah blah blah, and like making fun of him, and like the whole bar starts making fun of him and whatnot. And um, I think it was just was it just I want to say it was Nami, Zoro and Luffy that were in there, and um Nami's starting to get you know all like we need to, you know, do something about this, and and Zorro and Luffy are just like, no, this there's I mean what what do what exactly like there's not there's it was it was very reminiscent of um in the flashbacks when we see Shanks with the mountain bandits and they're all making fun of him pouring drinks on him stuff, but Shanks is just like totally chill, and like there's not it's not getting worked up, not worth getting worked up about this and whatnot. It was very reminiscent of that, but it's just like and then you know there's fucking Blackbeard was there and and um as they're all making fun of him and he and he he has that quote, it's like um oh it was like um uh like the the era where pirate okay here yeah the era where pirates have dreams will be over, they say, huh? People's dreams have no end. It's like yeah, no, it's like people's dreams never end. People will always dream. If they don't have dreams, then what they have, especially in some of these countries, is where it's like if you don't have that, what what do you have?
SPEAKER_06But it's like crazy enough, I fell in love with the I'm like, I want this guy, like I like this though, he's very cool.
SPEAKER_00But then I find out he's Blackbeard, I'm like, oh yeah, because that because yeah, no, he's like very chill and stuff, he just eating his pie and whatnot. And it's like and I'm trying to remember, was this this was right after he had taken Ace, wasn't it? Or was this before? Yeah, so it's like it's like if Luffy had known what he had just what Blackbeard had just done when he met him there, oh god, but he didn't, and and so it's but it's like yeah, no, it's like you know, he's like you said, he seems like a very chill, nice guy, and then we find out and it's like oh fuck. But yeah, no, just that whole, you know, people's dreams never die and whatnot, and but um Bellamy just still just going after and then and then when when uh Bellamy decides to fight Luffy and just like nah.
SPEAKER_06That's what they that's what I like about certain villains, to where they're compelling enough to where you know when you're right, you're right. Or like I don't completely disagree with you to where like some of the best villains is where you can kind of see their perspective, or they might have some sort of ideal um notion to where, like, okay, I can kind of vibe with that. Like, say for instance, here's the crazy thing, honest. I mean, you kind of already know Tenora, but like you remember the road trip that we had to Savannah, and I had on my Moderatia shirt on. Like, but my main thing is I love Moderatia as a van. Like, not only is he very strong, like a whole unit, but I like his whole thing to where his whole plan was to put everybody in this eternal get you situation. Everything um was all copic. Like, everybody's um dreams come true, everybody got living a good life. All you gotta do is just stay in this cocoon under this tree for the rest of your life.
SPEAKER_07And I don't like I don't it don't sound so bad.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, like I don't see what the problem is. Like, well, and it's like it's like the you know, villains that have like those those quotes where it's just like fuck, I hate you, but god, do you have a point? Like, um, aside from a kainu, my least the the guy I hate the most, aside from a kainu, is doflamingo. I do not like doflamingo, but during that that um the um war of the uh when they're there to rescue Ace and stuff, the stuff he's saying, it's like fuck. Yeah, the paramount war, that's what it is. It's like fuck, I hate you, but god you make some good points. So it's it's the same thing with Blackbeard. It's like it's like I hate you, I hate you, I hate you, but damn, did that hit that whole you know, people's dreams never die. It's like damn it.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, like you're still not wrong, like when you're right, you're right, but my I still don't book more about things.
SPEAKER_00Like Yeah. So it's just like, oh god. But yeah, and then it's like um, you know, when Blackbeard and his crew see how high the that the straw hats bounties got after defeating um Crocodile, like, well, let's you know capture them and take them in for the bounty and whatnot, and then the knockup stream happens and it's like, well shit. But oh, and also with uh Noland, uh the one uh wire king.
Noland Story And Usopp Connection
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and and cricket, they're his his descendant and whatnot, that still, you know, dives every day, dives down looking for because he thought that the you know El Dorado had sunk, where it got, you know, we find out later it was actually shot up to the sky. But he's you know still diving every day, trying to take back his uh ancestors' legacy, because you know became you know known as Nolan the Liar. And and how Usopp sort of felt that because you know he in his village he was you know the liar. That's that's his thing. And and even you know, in the crew, he's you know, he's the liar. So he was he felt he felt for that. It was like, yeah, no, I yeah, that was good.
SPEAKER_06You know what's crazy? Moments like that makes me in the mood to review Pirates of the Caribbean. We might do this at some point because at world's end, you're trying to figure out okay, where's this place they need to go? And oh, come to find out they need to flip the boat upside down so that way they'll be the right side up. And I'm like, that sounds like some pirates of the Caribbean type shit, to where I'm like, uh technically, um it wasn't that he was lying, it was more the information was being misinterpreted to where, oh, oh, okay. It wasn't that he was missing, it was it wasn't sunken, it was shot up in the sky.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, well, I mean, he he didn't lie at all. He was he was known as the liar, but he didn't lie at all. It was there, it just was shot up into the sky by the thing, and so he and he couldn't prove where it was, so they you know called they branded him a liar and executed him. So it's like so yeah, it's like yeah.
SPEAKER_06I'm telling you, the storytelling in this series is great, like masterclass.
SPEAKER_00It is, yeah. It is it is definitely worth it.
SPEAKER_06Uh you had anything else as far as got to you like the advice that uh the straw has to go against the uh vassals, the you know uh funkies and whatnot. Anything on that?
SPEAKER_00Um, well I like the uh and I can't remember his name. The the night guy with his his bird that ate the the devil fruit. Yeah. That that made it like horsebird thingy. Um coming up and and you know helping them against the um when they first get to the island or to the sky island, to the white sea. Um and the I'm again stuff is just coming back and it's like um just remembering uh oh crap, and there it went again. Hold up.
Skypiea Set Pieces And Crew Chemistry
SPEAKER_00What was the oh and Nami gets that that wave surfer thing using the the dials and stuff, and they they keep she had a blast on that thing. Um what was the I I've I've lost I've lost it, but oh the um when um the the ship's um going Mary's spirit oh yeah that that was like oh my gosh and then we see it like one more time later or a couple times later on and but the last time we see it's like oh god why it's like it felt like a drawhead member dying and like oh well you know exactly well it was it was that was like I mean because the ship is part of the crew, you can't have the crew without the ship, so that ship was part of the crew, and so it's like part of the crew, and it's like part of the crew exactly, and it's like they you know they loved it so much that it became manifest, like it was able, I feel like that was the reason it was able to manifest as it did, was because just because how well loved that ship was by the whole crew, and you know, it just trying to fix itself while they're off, trying to you know save Sky Island and whatnot, and like yeah, it's just like oh and then the uh uh I I I am a shipper, I am a big shipper. Um, my my two big ones for one piece are Luffy and Nami and Zorro and Robin. Um, and that was the that scene where Annelle shoots Robin with the lightning and Zoro catches her. Like that wasn't my first time being like, yes, this is my ship, but that definitely cemented it when you know she gets shot by lightning and Zorro like darts over and like grabs her before she hits the ground. It's like it's like my my my shippered heart, my shipping heart.
SPEAKER_06You know, that's the first time I heard someone say Zoro and Robin, and honestly, it makes money. Yeah, like you're like the first one. I'm like, huh?
SPEAKER_00Really? Yeah, no, it's actually a pretty, pretty popular one. Obviously, I I feel like the most popular one is Robin and Frankie, which I can see, but no, no. Her and Zorro is my OTP for for that for those two. But um, but it's just like um, yeah, no. So really they haven't heard that one. Yeah, no, it's a it's actually a pretty popular one.
SPEAKER_06Um that one's new to me.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, definitely, definitely is one of my, like I said, those are my two OTPs for one piece.
SPEAKER_06Really? It's like between Loopy and Nami and Loopy and Boa.
SPEAKER_00Nah. Nah.
SPEAKER_06That's the whole point of uh Hancock to where it's like it's it's unlikely that it's gonna happen, but it's almost like in a way you're kind of rooting for it. Almost like in a way that you kind of root for a Hinana getting with Naruto. But um Then again, I'm thinking of that one movie uh with a Moopy girlfriend like Uta, and then I'm like that's not his that was his sister, basically.
SPEAKER_00It's it was Shanks' daughter, and you know, Shanks is basically his his father figure. So it's like he, you know, they grew up basically as siblings.
SPEAKER_06Okay, my bad.
SPEAKER_00Like yeah, no, that's yeah.
SPEAKER_06All right, uh Um because for some reason um I heard of the movie. I didn't get around to hearing the movie. That was the one detail that I heard. I was like, wait, what?
SPEAKER_00I'm like, Yeah, nah.
SPEAKER_06He he it was gonna feel like some inny yassa type shit to where Toga um promised himself to this one chicken and just totally forgot about it years later.
SPEAKER_03Like, oh girl.
SPEAKER_06Oh yeah, I had a girlfriend somewhere.
SPEAKER_00Like, oh shit, I forgot about you. But yeah, no, no, no. They're they're more like siblings. Again, she was she was Shanks' daughter, so they you know, they both grew up together basically. Um but yeah, no Utah that that movie, oof damn. It was a good one, but damn. You don't you definitely should watch that one just saying? I think it isn't it on Netflix, I think. I'm not sure. I don't remember.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_00But yeah, no, that uh, but yeah, no, I just I don't I don't see Luffy and Hancock because I mean at every turn he's just like nope, nope. I mean, he saw her naked for God's sake, and he was just like so.
SPEAKER_06But oh well he saw me naked, so you're gonna have to take responsibility for this, otherwise I can never get married, you know. Like, don't don't don't do that, don't nah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00So yeah, no, I like I know you know it's a popular pairing, but I just personally am just like he's clearly not interested at all in that. So but yeah, but yeah, no, that's like I said that that scene with Zoro and Robin, it was like I had already been shipping it before, but that just cemented it. I'm like, yep, that's the one. That that's that's it, yep.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, it's me.
SPEAKER_00And then like the I I don't remember what all the trials were for of the you know the the disciples of the male, whatever the fuck they called themselves. Um, I don't remember what they all were, but it's like yeah, going going through all those different trials and trying to you know get to actually get to the guy they need to get to to take out to save this area and whatnot. Um and just yeah.
SPEAKER_06I feel you, like once again, like not everybody's um gonna be impressing our mind, but there's just some moments where like, bro, like that's that's not semantic for everywhere.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yep. And I just I just remembered when they're you know, because they're going along the canals from you know trial to trial, and when they're there and um and they're doing like the impressions of each other, that chopper, Usopp, and Luffy are all doing impressions and and Sanji's there just going, What the fuck is wrong with y'all?
unknownRight.
SPEAKER_00It's just like and then they they do like the impression of Sanji and he kicks them and stuff. It's just like they're just you know, they're just having I mean, because there's not really much else they can do at that point, they're just they have to wait to get to the next trial, and so they're just you know passing the time doing what what they do and just having fun because that's that's what they do, they they're they have fun. Like that yeah, there's all the serious stuff, but they at the heart, like they're still I mean, they're all basically still kids. So it's like they're they're you know, they're they're having fun. That's and it's nice seeing that in between all the serious stuff as well.
Ringing The Bell And Closing Tease
SPEAKER_06Um we need to go ahead and wrap up this part because we're gonna have to do some other things. But um, was anything else you want to add on to this guy before we close up this section?
SPEAKER_00The one last thing was when he finally defeats Annelle and rings and you know the um uh what's the warrior guy's name? Um shit, I don't remember his name, but like the the the main warrior guy from the the natives was like he's like ring the bell and and Luffy that that big ball of gold still on his hand rings the bell and they hear it all the way down at Jaya, and they see you know Luffy's um shadow in the clouds, and um that's when you know Cricket uh Noland realized they found you know that was the first time that bell had been heard in what was it like 400 years or something like that in a long fucking time, and and he had you know heard the stories of the bell, so he knew when he heard that bell and saw that shadow of Luffy's victorious pose and whatnot, he was like El Dorado is it it is real. My ancestor didn't lie. I don't I say ancestor because I don't remember how far back he was, so I just said call him you know ancestors like that.
SPEAKER_06I think it was like grandfather.
SPEAKER_00Was it just grand? Okay, so it wasn't that far back.
SPEAKER_06So it's like in fact, I'd say like a hundred years, I think it was. No, okay.
SPEAKER_00So yeah, so it's like it's you know, he was he realized it's like he really wasn't a liar. There really was a city of gold and just like broke down. It's like aw, this was sweet. But yeah, no, that that final victory, you know, after because and Luffy absorbing like the the that big move that Onell was trying to do to completely wipe out the island and stuff to go down. But yeah, it's like that that that final moment of just ringing the bell and the the warrior guard being just like uh yeah, it was it was like damn.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, Alabasta and Skype. Very good artists, like really set the tone for what we can expect later on in One Piece. But that's it for now. We're gonna go ahead and close it out here. Next time we're lobbying talk about things like uh T8, Long Ring Island, War to 7, Enez Lobby, oh yeah, Enez Lobby. Oh my god, uh thriller bark, uh Sabody, and maybe we get to M Pell down and move this on call, but uh we'll see. Like uh real quick, like I'll I'll just do it real quick, like just to check because my intention was to do one piece uh season eight through 14 because I wanted to do this in three parts, so water seven uh season eight, so marine four, okay. So it's gonna be from water seven to marine four, so yeah.
SPEAKER_00Ooh, some good arts in that. Is that gonna be all one one thing? Are we breaking it up? Because that's gonna be a lot in one. Is that gonna all be in one thing, or are we gonna break that up?
SPEAKER_06Because that's gonna be a lot to talk about with all that goes on, like we might have to break it up, but we'll have it like um compiled into one part square like when it comes, when it goes out, like where it's uh like C in the previous part, we didn't do it like uh all seven, like we like we broke it up two or once and released out, so yeah.
SPEAKER_00So that's why I was asking.
SPEAKER_06I was like, uh yeah, this is like the end of part one of the stream review. So after this, it'll be part two where we talk about quarter seven through three more, and who knows when we get to all the parts of until then, just stay tuned and we'll get back to y'all.
