From Rave Master to Edens Zero: The Evolution of Hiro Mashima's Storytelling

JetBlackXtreme, Hero Pendragon Season 18 Episode 5

We explore Hero Mashima's storytelling evolution from Rave Master to Farmagia to Edens Zero, finding that Edens Zero represents his most mature and compelling work yet.

• Rave Master still holds up with solid jokes, music, and character development
• Farmagia blends Pokémon with fantasy elements as Mashima served as character designer
• Edens Zero follows Shiki Granbell, a human raised by robots who can control gravity
• The series features space adventures, time manipulation, and darker themes than Mashima's previous works
• Edens Zero contains numerous references to Rave Master and Fairy Tail without feeling derivative
• Characters like Drakken Joe and Homura's mother Kurenai demonstrate the series' willingness to explore darker territory
• Season two focuses on confrontation with Drakken Joe and Ziggy's resurrection
• The power of friendship doesn't always prevail in Edens Zero, setting it apart from Fairy Tail
• Edens Zero video game releases on July 15th, potentially building momentum for season three

Speaker 1:

hey yo. So you remember when we reviewed fairy tale a while back. Well, it's finally time we go ahead and talk about the other works by hiro mashima, starting with rave master. Now I re-watched rave master. I was watching it when I was a kid and honestly it was better than I remembered. Like the jokes, the music composition, that opening theme still slaps.

Speaker 1:

The heroes are pretty solid cast like Haru Glory with his mission to let all the rave stones and defeat the shadow guard and smash all the shadow stones and, you know, for peace to the world. You, gotie the anisiac who got these cool ass tompa guns and turns out that she's like a clone of a woman who have like ethereum within her. Uh, you have musica. Music is cool, like I want to. I want to say he looks more like the prototype for a great full buster in a way, but he's cool in his own right work like uh, the carrot nose dog that you probably see in fairy tale, like sparingly, but plu is more prominent in rave master. So if you see that carrot nose dog and any of those macho words, um, that's pretty much a homage to rave master. Uh, you see grip. Uh, you see this one horse that like have this vibrating head. And the funny thing is, I've seen Ravemaster, I've seen Farmagia and I've seen Eden Zero do this, and out of all of them, ravemaster did it better. And that's crazy because, like the animation in a way, like it's not as clean as Fairy Tail or even Zero, but in some aspects the animation still holds up. I did mention the jokes and what not, and the antagonist they're pretty cool, like King, he's an okay antagonist. I didn't remember there being a Shadow Master, but he's alright too. What's an okay antagonist? I didn't remember there being a shadow master, but he's all right. What's not okay, though, is him stealing ellie's first kiss. That's assault, sir, that's a no-no. Uh, the erasure on safe is a thing before fairy tale and they're not gonna go away anytime soon. I'll explain that later.

Speaker 1:

The big butt bandits you've seen them in fairy tale, but they were a thing in rave master. So seeing them in fairy tale, that was a rave master reference. You're gonna see a lot of references between those as we go along, but for the most part you will think that with rave master, the main thing is like music, because the way they have places like hip-hop town, garage island, which I guess supposed to be like a reference to garage band music, uh, musica. You think that the theme will be music, but it's only in terminology. In fact, episode 11 Is the closest thing to being music related. That Rave Master goes, but outside of that it's just mainly A bunch of people wielding Swords and having special powers. They have guns too, like other than Ellie's Tonfa guns. They have, like Guns, but it's mainly the henchman that wields them and I thought, okay, that's cool, that's cool. For the most part.

Speaker 1:

I don't have a whole lot to say about rave man. I'll just say that it was pretty decent. Like still holds up. Honestly, like really, just go ahead and watch it. Like some of the jokes like I keep mentioning jokes, but I swear to god, they age well enough to where I'm like yeah, yeah, I kind of chuckled here and there. I give rave master a generous nine out of ten.

Speaker 1:

Now moving on to farmagia. Now, farmagia, think of it like. But for starters, it was a video game with hiramashima as the character designer, not the writer for the story, but the character designer. It was a video game before we have an anime adaptation and essentially it's about how think Pokemon, but instead of you going out and catching them, you cultivate them, you farm them. You literally like throw them like plants or fruit or some shit, vegetables and shit and you train them up. It's like how you how to train your dragon meets Pokemon meets fairytale. You train them up. It's like how to train your dragon Meets Pokemon Meets fairytale. Outside of that, there's some references to Brave Master Fairytale, the Erasure on Sace and Farmagia Are actually the good guys.

Speaker 1:

That was a weird turn for me, but okay, whatever. Outside of that, it just mainly there was some corrupt members of the oration on safes and the main cast is going out to defeat them and they eventually replaced them. Well, not officially, but it's more like, once they defeat them, they're like candidates for being the new Horatio Ancest, but they still got more work to do. So, yeah, it was alright. I say eh, 7. Solid, 7. It was alright. Now the real meat and potatoes Eden 0. Now the real meat and potatoes Eden Zero. And this is why I'm glad I have Hero Pendragon for this, because let me tell you, when I watched Eden Zero, finally, I was thinking to myself I definitely like it more than Formagia. I like it more than Farmagia, I like it more than Ravemaster Dare. I say I think I like it better than Fairytale Because it's all those, it's all of them.

Speaker 1:

So you have Zeke Granville, human boy living among robots in this deserted theme park, planet Granville, in the Sakurara Cosmos. He had this adoptive grandfather, the demon king robot Ziggy, but he's a benevolent king, so I don't think he's like real evil or not. Yet Now he teaches them how to control gravity with a superhuman power called Ethergear. And 10 years later, after Ziggy's death, the park is visited by the space fairing content creators or b-cubers. Uh, rebecca, blue garden and happy, but yeah, happy from fairy tale, but not the same happy, so get that out of your head. Whom she keep her friends when the dying robots forced the three off the grand bill before expending their vital ether energy.

Speaker 1:

So, seeking out new friends and adventure, the three set out in search of Mother. Who's this fabled goddess of the cosmos? He meets Elsie Crimson, he meets the four shining stars, that's aboard the Eden Zero, the interstellar warship that belonged to Ziggy. As they try to find Mother, trying to solve all these problems on these multiple planets, they meet Weiss Steiner, they meet Pino, they meet Homura and, before I really get into it, zero. What was your impression of Eden Zero?

Speaker 2:

Especially with season one, I thought it started off pretty much very clean and happy going, especially with Shiki and his you know first meeting with Rebecca. Of course it gives you those kind of a little bit of those vibes from, you know, natsu and Lucy meeting each other and all that, although it happened, you know, much crazier, but they did meet though. They did meet though, and it was pretty sad, of course, knowing that shiki was, he was being raised by robots and he also had zehi there, so naturally it made him a little socially awkward, especially when it came to other humans. But aside from that, uh, he like, on the other hand, he really is loyal to it shows in his loyalty to his friends despite all that. So he definitely shows that he does care deep down. Really, he cares deep down for like anybody, like robot or human, and it's definitely a pretty good character of his.

Speaker 1:

Right, you know what I really like that? You mentioned that because first of all, I like the way he met Rebecca, where he was like it was so funny too, because at first it was like Rebecca and Happy was about to be attacked, or so they thought, but then it turns out that he revealed Shiki with the long hair by the way, I'm kind of a fan of his long hair for some reason, but you know, I know it didn't last very long. And then I like how the dude probably crawled off the creature to meet with Rebecca and was like feeling her up and shit and it was like so funny, but the theme for this story is space adventure and I want to say time travel.

Speaker 1:

but it's not as simple as time travel, it's more like Time displacement. Okay.

Speaker 2:

It's much Anything. You can probably think that's like time related. It's much more complex. I can say that much Like I won't spoil Too much, since I have read mangas and what not, I will focus on just the Animation. I might make a little bit of references here and there, but not really to spoil anything Too much. But yeah, it's, I have read mangas and whatnot. I will focus on just the animation. I might make a little bit of references here and there, but not really to spoil anything too much. But yeah, it is wonky with time.

Speaker 1:

I'll say that much. Right, fair enough Now. Granted, when I gave my review on Ravemaster, ravemaster was old, like super old, if you haven't seen it by now. Whatever, farmagia I didn't really say much about parmigia, anyway, to feel like I spoiled that much, but like yeah you know it is what it is.

Speaker 1:

But eden zero, yeah, like, if you haven't seen eden zero or read the manga, I would suggest, you know, go ahead and click it off from this episode. I don't't blame you. I don't blame you. But when you do, get back to us because we might go into spoiler territory if we can't help it Like, if we like just slip out the tongue. So we're warning you now, but keep on pushing.

Speaker 1:

Now, like I was saying before, it starts off strong with a machine uprising revenge squad. That was actually a plan to encourage Shiki to leave his home planet with no needs to return. I thought it was kind of touching and sad at the same time, but I felt like I get it and I love how, despite all that, like Shiki had like no ill will towards his people for doing that for him, because you know, you know they said in themselves like hey, man, like you would have kept insisting on fixing this if you knew the truth. So we're just gonna have to like push you all, like give you a reason to leave, so that way it's like you don't have to like keep holding yourself back, because I know you want to go out and see the stars. Like, yeah, you don't need to be like Stuck on this planet forever. Like Go have adventure.

Speaker 1:

Like go meet new Friends and, like you said before, he's Kind of awkward when it comes to people. Like he's Trying to befriend as many people as possible, like he's trying to make A hundred friends and it's like Whatever it takes to make new friends. Like hey, you just beat me up, you wanna be friends? I mean, he didn't really get beat up, but like it just be like that. It's like just no matter what terms the whole shit is on, it's like, yeah, let's be friends. I'm like bro. Like on one hand, like that's not how friendship works sometimes, but on the other hand, I kind of respect. Also, like he's like got his goals in mind. But uh, let's talk about the combat. Even zero arguably has the best combat scene in the monster universe with rave master.

Speaker 1:

It was like, okay, it was kind of interesting like here and there, but it felt like a little dragged out at some point. But for amasia, once again kind of imagined pokemon, but it was okay, it was really. What kind of drew me away was like they use a little bit of cgi for the monsters. I'm like whatever. Uh, but eden zero impressed the fuck out of me. It just like, for instance, that fight between him and that clone of LC Crimson, which who, by the way, looked like a carbon copy of Urza Scarlet but you know, with the eye patch and whatnot, and she when she fought the clone and he was trying to use Like gravity common, you know the move that His grandpa knew and I like the way he like try to drive her Through those multiple floors. I'm like, bro, you don't see that In the other shows.

Speaker 2:

I think Eden Zero has uh Certain favorite types of users when it comes to, like magic or abilities and all that. Obviously, something being related to dragons is obviously one of my first favorites. You know, fire, probably ice, some stuff like associated with dark even. But I think, going like with Eden Zero, it's a I think watching Sheiky and you know, going like with eden zero, it's uh I think watching shiki and you know, going forward with that I think it's probably made him one of my like favorite gravity users.

Speaker 1:

Like it's, it's made me like a lot of gravity related characters bro like he's kind of rivaling, he kind of edging brago from zatsville for me, because brago was like the main one to do it when it comes to gravity powers. Like you can name a whole bunch of gravity users, but like Brago, the way he used gravity powers was just really impressive. Like he was aura farming that whole series and Siki, especially when he like going to overdrive and all that shit. Oh, I'll be a cold motherfucker. I can tell, like I didn't read the manga yet.

Speaker 1:

Like if season three is too far away, I'm like you know what, fuck it, let me just go ahead and read into the manga. Like I know a little details already and I'm trying not to spoil too much. Like I know some bits and pieces here and there, some bits and pieces here and there. So, but I'm like thinking you know what if season three is too far off? I'm like you know, let's just go ahead and deep dive into the manga because we're gonna. We're at a point to where we're going to do jiu-jitsu kaisen. We already did seasons one, two and the movie. I think we talked about the movie and at this point we just got the manga. So if we wanted to go ahead and get the manga out of the way, since we wanted to talk about the manga. Anyways, we're gonna save that for halloween. We're probably gonna do the same thing with a lot of manga. So instead of like waiting for the anime, um to like catch up to the manga, like fuck it, just go into the manga.

Speaker 1:

But spoilers, spoilers, but spoilers, spoilers, spoilers. But let's stick to Eden Zero, season one and two for now. Where was I going with this? Oh yeah, I find it funny how Rebecca and Happy are the anime equivalent of a small time YouTuber. Also, happy became a cyborg due to an accident and can transform into dual blasters for Rebecca to use. Rebecca got good at marksmanship because of first-person shooter games and she also discovered that her ether gear, while bathed on a ship firing a blast of light, eventually evolved into Cat Leaper, to where she was able to kind of eat through time, I guess you could say.

Speaker 2:

That's an overpowered ability she has, I mean going from moves and then to just leaping through time and stuff. Yeah, that's already enough of an OP power there.

Speaker 1:

Hell, yeah, I also like Weiss's either gear Machina Maker to where it essentially just Manipulates your technology. That's like one of my favorite Powers, you know, just Manipulate technology to where, like you know, like um Technus From Danny Phantom, but you know, proficient yeah.

Speaker 2:

I love, I love his ability To like. Every. Every time I would Read to like, you know, or even Just watch the anime, any really and I see him and it's always a movie arsenal.

Speaker 1:

I would think, like what was his uh hero name like when he like put on the suit or whatever? What he called him arsenal.

Speaker 2:

That's right yeah, I kept getting like so much like gundam vibes slash, like all these other have been like so much like gundam vibes slash, like all these other man, it's like dude he's. It is pretty awesome, like I mean, especially when you have a power to manipulate technology and, depending on the era you live in, and if technology is already at the peak of its height, you basically just have the advantage as always, like how advanced technology is literally scales to how powerful you're going to be oh yeah, oh yeah, and let's just say I'm kind of working on an original story based around that, but uh, I'm not gonna give away too much now.

Speaker 1:

I busted out laughing in episode four when she keep a friend at pino, then turned to rebecca and said you can still be my side friend. I'm sitting like, oh, y'all make it sound like y'all like dating, but platonic how do you like side friend?

Speaker 1:

how are you? Oh, you know what? This bitch, rebecca, has a B-cubing rival called Labilia. That really gets on my nerve. The kind of B-cuber that's super popular, but a total bitch, whether it's like online or in real life. And to a degree, every time she shows up I'm like bro, bro, I just want somebody to punch her in the face.

Speaker 2:

You know, she, she, she was really annoying like dude I. I think she's definitely, I'd say a lot of people probably agree to that. Yeah, every time she's on the screen, it's, it's just obnoxious oh yeah, uh, young wife is an interesting character.

Speaker 1:

I already mentioned his uh, ability, machina maker. Uh, I love the design for eden zero andrew companion, which like what can I say? I'm a simple guy sometimes. Uh, pino was designed to be the successor of the demon kings four shining stars. Uh, there was a secret door in the ship with code 3173, which is a reference to Ellie from Ravemaster, because in Ravemaster Ellie was like a clone of a woman, a very powerful woman, and like within Ellie there's like this power called ethereum and you hear ethereum a lot and the machine. Well, first, and I just thought it was kind of interesting because I'm like I saw, uh, that code now like three, one, seven. Oh, I got that reference.

Speaker 1:

Uh, I love the idea of machines having a heart in this series, like he was saying earlier, hero, where it's like uh, shiki will present machines and humans and whatnot, aliens and whatnot, because he believes that machines are people too. You know they have feelings and whatnot and you can kind of tell From them too. I like Jim the Cyborg ninja guy, hell, yeah, I was saying like that boy looks nice, not gonna lie. Okay, episode 9 I'm gonna be honest with you, hero, like I was watching this show right, and then you told me it gets kind of dark and I was sitting there like, oh, okay, well, you know, I'll probably prepare for that, and not too long I get to episode nine, I'm like damn, I see what he's talking about now, because Rebecca and some of the other BQers gets kidnapped with intentions to be sold to a criminal on a plan full of criminals, and it was like a human trafficking analogy could be made there and I was like, yeah, you know.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, because I was like when I was reading through that mess I was like I was thinking like, yeah, fairytale certainly had its dark elements too, but when it came to Eden Zero though, it's like, nah, eden Zero had that outclassed. And even when it came to the you know, I'm just saying when it came to the power of friendship, there was a certain episode where that didn't work. That didn't work. That didn't work. I bet anybody who watched that for the first time or even read it, were probably thinking they'll find a way to bust out of this. Some miracle will happen. Right, it did not happen, it did not happen, wow.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I guess they had to smile a little for the anime.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, and I actually, even though I didn't watch the whole season two like the animated version, I looked up the YouTube clips here and there a bit because I wanted to see how they did some of the critical moments with people like Dragonjo and I can I remember her name? There was homera's um mother. Uh wasn't her name, madam kurina, I think. I want to say uh, hold on.

Speaker 1:

I'm trying to think, um, I had kurina, yeah, yeah, like there was with her.

Speaker 2:

I'm like jesus christ, like it's Koronai, Koronai, yeah, yeah, and like there was with her, I'm like Jesus Christ, like it's. You're not kidding about how dark this gets, and then when you get, yeah, like.

Speaker 1:

I mean it had my Look. I reviewed Redo Appealer with Kokugatsu a while back and he asked me A question what happened in episode 2, where he was like did you think the princess Deserved what happened? And I'm sitting here like I Can't say Ooh, um, I can't say what a clear con is like I'm having moral that she deserved it. But I will say this much I did not feel bad for her yeah, I didn't watch.

Speaker 2:

I didn't watch your anime, but I definitely know of the infamous um little clips and moments that people make memes out of too, from that anime redo of healer and yeah, and then going into all the kinds of stuff that kareem I got into uh, that was just plain.

Speaker 1:

Because here's the thing, hold on, let's backtrack a little bit. First, homura, let's talk about the daughter first. First of all, with Homura, she's kind of a weirdo, you know. She likes to think out loud to a fault, like a great example of oversharing. But I do like her Ethergear Soul Blade.

Speaker 1:

Now her whole thing was she had Valkyrie, one of the four shining stars, and Valkyrie was more of a mother to Homura than Kuro and I ever was, because you know Kuro and I ever was, because you know Kuro and I uh, abandoned Homura when she was young and whatnot. Crazy enough, irene from fairy tale was better than Kuro and I in this one, because at least with Irene is like, okay, she was kind of a bitch, but in a way she kind of redeemed herself, even going as far as helping wendy um in fairy tales. So I'm like, okay, well, irene was kind of a bitch and she almost went there trying to possess urza um for the sake of, you know, preserving her youth and whatnot. But Like, nah, no, with Kuro and I the crazy thing is Kuro and I Killed her husband Just to gain power and all that other shit.

Speaker 1:

And once Shiki and the gang took her down and Homura Was like Showed her that doll, that Kuro, and I gave her. And she was like do you remember this? And I was like I don't know what the fuck is that. And I was like do you not remember the only thing you ever gave me?

Speaker 1:

and I was like really I gave you that shit and I was like, alright, check this out, I can forgive you, but I also never want to deal with you ever again. So get the fuck up out of here. So he runs away. And Kuro and I was like that dumb bitch Like you really think I'm going to like. And then that one dude, cedric, you know the dude that got his face burnt off, I think he got burnt off and he like hit her with the bat and I was like, surprise bitch, remember me, we're going to have some fun with you Once again. I'm not saying she deserved it, it, but I didn't feel bad for her.

Speaker 2:

It's like it's like she had some form of karma coming. It's like I can't say if she deserved it either, but it's when you do things like that, it's like you won't. You won't go through it. Through it easy, uh, going down the line like sooner or later you'll get punished for this, which way or another right.

Speaker 1:

Moving on with my other notes, we see one vcuber revealed that her videos are fake and scripted, which could be an analogy on how some youtubers in real life operate. You know how you will have some youtubers like, okay, say, for instance, I've been going on youtube and I can tell that there are some foes that would do reviews, so to speak, of anime like what we're doing. But you can kind of tell that it seemed like an ai voice and it's like just reading off a script and whatnot, and I feel like it feels kind of genius, but in a way it's kind of lazy, in a way that I can't really respect it like, if anything is like how we're doing it now, to where at least it sounds like we're really, uh, talking about it like instead of it sound like we're super scripted. That's my main thing. I don't like doing scripted episodes. I honestly try to do rave master and, uh, farmagia scripted, but I I wasn't even feeling myself doing all that shit, so I'm like fuck it, I'm just gotta speak from my heart, speak what I gotta say. If I don't have a whole lot to say, then that's just it. But with eden zero, I got a bunch to say. So bear with me. Uh, sister looks like a nun but has a potty mouth. Uh, once again the racial insays is involved in this story, but they're back to being bad guys. But you know before, for a month they were good guys. In this one they're still bad guys. But you know before, for Amadou they were good guys. In this one they're still bad guys.

Speaker 1:

I like the inclusion of video game culture playing an integral part of the series, without overcomplicating the plot, like you know, with jokes and whatnot. I did like that. A reference to Ichiya from Fairytale can be seen in episodes 13 and 19. Blue, the carrot-nosed dog, and that shaky horse makes an appearance In episode 13,. I thought it was funny. You know the video game episode where Weiss chose a female character, which reminds me of Tyler's preference of choosing female characters.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, Dude, you never get that, but almost every gamer guy does, sometimes with the option. It's like we all know why we really do it.

Speaker 1:

Herman looks like a recluse, hot to name Miku, but has a reason for having trust issues with humans. She was tricked by researchers to develop a weapon, then tortured and mistreated afterwards. I do like how the gang didn't want to open closed wounds but to extend their hand of friendship to Herman anyway. So it's like, in other words, they were like saying hey, man, you know what, I don't even need to know why you don't trust humans, just know that whatever happened, you can trust us. I like that.

Speaker 2:

I'm trying to remember his name. But, yeah, I know which character they're referring to, I just can't remember his name at the moment.

Speaker 1:

I like the way Maria's line is put together with her elasticity powers. I appreciate the narrator, xiao Mei, the time oracle, giving the audience a brief recap and insight on events as well as foreshadowing events to come. She even meets the gang to help them locate valkyrie and amira who the spy who impersonated homera. In a way she kind of looked like lucy orphelia with swirly pigtails. But you know, afterwards I was like thinking, nah, not exactly close. But rebecca looks more like lucy than this chick does.

Speaker 1:

But you know, I would think like and I in a way she kind of reminded me of lucy. Uh, I did like how I thought was kind of funny when madame kura and I revealed that she planned on double crossing drake and joe by essentially saying I'm not coming for 30, I'm coming for everything, but dragon joe ends up double-crossing her by hacking her crimson eye system. I'm like, ah, this bitch thought she got over on me I knew like that wasn't gonna go well.

Speaker 2:

Like I mean, dragon joe was just the type of guy he he already gives a vibes to where it's just like he doesn't seem that easy to manipulate, like thinking you can just double cross him. Guy he he already gives a vibes to where it's just like he doesn't seem that easy to manipulate, like thinking you can just double cross him, when he probably already he is 200 years old, like I want to say.

Speaker 1:

He gotta have like a little wisdom and smarts, to a point where I'm like bitch, I've been doing this. I've been doing this for almost 150 years as well. This ain't nothing new.

Speaker 2:

Literally been around longer than since you were born. Yeah.

Speaker 1:

You think I've never been double-crossed before. This ain't nothing new. You too, angel from Fairy Tail was referenced in episode 21. Uh, kuro and I you know Homer's mother, I mean, genetically, it tracks. But a fairly good twist, considering that Kuro and I is allied with the Ops. Valkyrie saved Kuro and I from imprisonment, but the latter married Baron Mordo and killed him in order to take his place. An amazing storytelling style in episode 22. Did I forget to mention, did we talk about yeah, we talked about how there's dragons and mechs in this series. So I thought I love that. You know, I like dragons, I like mechs. So the fact that they had both, I'm like oh, eden Zero, you just know how to speak my language, don't you? I?

Speaker 2:

need to learn how to immediately draw like mecha-type dragons. Now I need to. I don't know why I haven't started yet.

Speaker 1:

Me too. Yeah, check out Hero Pin Dragon. What's your handle on Instagram? I know it's something different it's GallyHero or something like that.

Speaker 2:

It's at HeroArcDragon.

Speaker 1:

There you have it. Check him out on Instagram, check out his artwork. I did mention Arsenal Very common writer, slash iron man like, uh, nino, the anime bcuber impressed me with having a ether gear where I think it was like he was just like jojo boxing motherfuckers, I don't know. Okay, okay, you know, iino, I see you, I see you. We get a better idea of Rebecca's Ethan Gear Cat Leaver, like late into season one. We already mentioned that we do get a fourth wall break Between Rebecca and Nino, stating that, oh, manga tends to be Better than anime. But then Rebecca look at the screen saying like, but not in this anime. Y'all y'all cute for that, y'all real cute for that. Okay, I see y'all. Uh, because, not gonna lie, I'm like I didn't read the manga.

Speaker 2:

But yeah, this is like one of those cases with um, if I had to say the um the art style. Well, of course, the art style is pretty much relatively the same with the anime and manga, but obviously there's key differences between the two. Sometimes and uh, I know I'm jumping ahead a little bit here when I say this, but that fight with track and joe andiki again, but with Shiki using his overdrive, like the actual full form Now in the anime don't get me wrong it looked really clean, like, especially with the way the sequence went, it looked really clean. The fight, the moves, it all looked really good. But I'm telling you, when you see the manga pictures for it, like that's, it's hardcore, like it looks really just menacing. You can, you can feel how intimidating that form actually is.

Speaker 1:

Oh yeah but I was thinking like, okay, it looks kind of cool. But I can only imagine that with manga, especially with it being black and white, it'll look more menacing because, like, you're gonna have to make it look like like once again. I didn't read the manga, but I can tell that if you wanted to make it look really menacing, you gotta let that ink bleed. It gotta look like that carrot is like bleeding at you.

Speaker 2:

Yeah you gotta look, you gotta look up a picture of it, at least Like a manga version of it, like, look up a picture for it and you'll see what I mean. It's very menacing and has that intensity to it.

Speaker 1:

Hell yeah, hell yeah. Outside of that, I was like my notes were mainly for season one, because season one kind of impressed me very much. Uh, season two was very good, but I just don't have a whole lot to say on season two, just that the first half focused on the crew's confrontation with dragon joe and then the second half focused on, uh, ziggy's sudden resurrection, uh, and who's decided to wage war on humanity. Uh, similar to fairy tale, there's an element four and eden zero under the employment of dragon joe, and you know what. Ultimately, I'm just very impressed by this series. Can't wait for season three. I dare say once again, eden zero just might be by this series. Can't wait for season three. I dare say once again, eating Zero just might be my favorite series in all the Monster Universe.

Speaker 2:

I have to say the same thing and I think I think the get around to season three, like pretty much after eating Dragon Joe and stuff, I would say that well, pretty much what happened with, I'm like I said, the whole of our friendship not working, you know that moment with cheeky and you know his death, and then what happened after with rebecca, I think that moment and that's a critical moment right there, as well, as um mentioned, with connor, when you see his tattoo of Eden's one, there's like some other little factors too, but that's seems like it to season three. That's when a lot of these big things gets revealed and details in season one, but it'll just all come back like it'll, it'll dial back, I'll just say that much wrong little details that were missed or that'll be capitalized on later, like after the second half of season two. That's when it really gets it going into the lore a lot more and things start making sense.

Speaker 1:

That's it Okay. Okay, let's pray that season three comes soon. For the time being, if I were to give it rating, I'd say a 9.5 out of 10. Like I would say a perfect 10. But it's like, that's just the thing. Like For now, it feels like I need to see the rest of the anime and then see the manga and do the comparison before I give a complete review, because, keep in mind, we're pretty much just judging the first two seasons and the manga parallel to it, and once we see how it really plays out, once I dive into the manga and see how I feel about it, then we'll give an official rating on it. But right now, as it stands, 9.5 out of 10. While we wait for Season 3, we are getting an Eden Zero video game slated for a release on July 15th, so let's hope that it gets enough sales and drop enough interest for Season 3 to come out relatively soon-like. What say you, you Hero?

Speaker 2:

yeah, I'm looking forward to it. I'm not gonna lie, I didn't even know about the video game for Eden Zero. I gotta look into that. I don't know how I totally missed that. But shoot, I'm looking forward to it.

Speaker 1:

Like I have to look forward to how the gameplay would be and everything, how they would do it, oh yeah, with that being said, that, it I have to look forward to how the gameplay would be and everything, how they would do it. Hell yeah, with that being said. That's all I had to say on Eden Zero for now.

Speaker 2:

Hero, do you have anything you want to add on before we close it out?

Speaker 1:

Nope that'll be it for me, alrighty then. Well, I do thank you for being on the show with me. Of course, I hope you come back for more and I thank the listener for sticking to us to the end. Please check out more of our episodes coming, more episodes that have been coming out you know late and some of our previous episodes coming out. Oh yeah, don't forget our Patreon Now.

Speaker 1:

Our thing now is for a bare minimum of $1, just $1, it might increase up to $3. I don't know for sure, because I think, with Patreon, point being is that for a minimum of $1, you can support us as we try to get more equipment for such as new PCs, new podcast equipment like new mics and whatnot. I know y'all want to see our darling faces, but for the time being, we need to build up a right space for that. So we need better equipment. I need upgrades for my 3d printing so I can do more merch. I'm gonna have a merch store opening up for etsy sometime in may. I don't know for sure. I want to say June. June sounds more realistic. And, of course, as I list up on Etsy, I will be importing them onto our website, zonealliancecom.

Speaker 1:

I'll be trying to clean up our Discord server. We're going to try to be more active on social media. We have Hero here. He's going to be one of our editors for YouTube projects. I might be editing too, but it's not going to be just him. I'm going to have a whole bunch of people too. But you might see us get real active really soon. But until then, stay faithful, stay nerdy, my friends oh shit, I haven't done that in a while and remember that great things are coming. We're going to go ahead and zone out of here, so I hope you guys have a good morning, good afternoon, good evening, good night and, ultimately, take it easy.
