What up nerds? It's Jet Black Extreme and it's another episode of the Zone Podcast for Nerdy News and Reviews. Today's topic is Marvel Rivals. Let's go ahead and get into that. So Marvel Rivals came out on December 6th, right, and people were saying that oh, it's going to be Overwatch killer and all that. And I'm sitting there like bro, bro here, listen, play Marvel Rivals, play Overwatch, play both. Play neither. Just shut the fuck up and play a game. It ain't that deep. But you know, some people want to make it known how much you know it's like bro. Like, are you all a bunch of Some people want to they get known how much it's like bro? Are you all a bunch of Attention whores or something? But anyways, my experience I'm digging it.
Speaker 1:I'll admit I'm not the best at it right now, but I've been playing as certain characters and Having fun. Like you know, I'm getting into it. Like I just need to learn the characters and figure out what characters I like to play as, and you know I'll get better over time. Uh, let's go ahead and get into some of the characters. Like. I'm gonna read through some of these characters here. For starters, we got adam warlock now his main thing as a healer. He can resurrect allies like mercy. I think rocket raccoon can do it too but like uh, with the armor pack, I'll explain that later but with adam I felt like jesus, fishing and resource management is going to be a thing with adam, because you can't just pop off his skills willy-nilly and just end up fucking yourself over it. And he's not the strongest backliner either. Like if someone like, say, star lordLord gets in your backline, or Spider-Man gets in your backline, or Venom, and he's like all alone and shit. I'm like, hmm, that's just in my experience.
Speaker 1:Black Panther, melee DPS character Pretty strong. I didn't get a chance to play as him as much like I played as everybody in the training practice range, but everybody for the most part, like I just played him just a little bit just to kind of get a feel for their abilities and whatnot. But some of them I actually played in actual games and I'm digging them. So far, black Panther is not one of them. I actually played in actual games and I'm digging them so far. Uh, black panther is not one of them, unfortunately. It's like.
Speaker 1:It's like overwatch all over again to where I'm like I want to play with these characters, but I need to be the player that the team needs, over just picking a character that I just feel like playing, and if it's just coincidental that, oh, they need a uh duelist or that's their way of saying dps, because, by the way, uh, tanks are vanguards, uh dps are duelists, and healers slash support, whatever you want. Home are strategists, but I'm not calling them that. I'll call that. But I'm not calling him that. I'll call it out. Yeah, black Panther decent. I've definitely played against him and he's decent, but I didn't have enough play time with him.
Speaker 1:So we'll see Black Widow, the Widowmaker of this game, and it's funny, I'm not trying to make that much of a comparison between Marvel Rite with Overwatch. I'm trying to make Marvel Rite with comparison between Marvel right wasn't overwatch, I'm trying to make Marvel right was his own thing. But let's be real, uh, with Black Widow, with her uh gun, and that's another thing with this game. Like, the abilities are so different in a way to where you're not gonna see any some of these abilities in Overwatch and at the same time, these characters are built in a way to where, yeah, they kind of remind me of this other character in this other game, but they're just built different. So yeah, but black widow, yeah, she got the sniper rifle and whatnot, so, but the main thing is she can't one-shot people. I tried and it's like you get you have to hit him like twice, like double tap, but that's just my experience. Captain america, uh, he is decent as a tank, like if you get up on him, you know, charging your shield, like throwing your shield, but it's like limited on how many times you can do shield lobs and whatnot, but it's okay, he's okay. Cloak and dagger okay.
Speaker 1:First character that I like really got into, because the main thing is switching between cloak and dagger when you need to. But when you do, dagger is the healer part and cloak is more like the dps part. So people are saying that, oh, scarlet witch is going to be like moira of this game. But I want to give that to cloak and dagger really because they're like the most likely to fill that role, if you can even call it that. But even then their kid is so different from moira that you can't really say that exactly. But yeah, I really like cloak and dagger where you can be kind of strategic with their um, their walls, like either with dagger it sends out a healing wall, or cloak. It sends out this wall where it kind of obstructs the enemy's view, so it's kind of like a debuff on them. I like cloak and dagger. They were fun, especially with the ultimate where they're like dashing at people and shit.
Speaker 1:Dr strange, I was surprised he was a tank, but with his shield spell I'm like okay, well, fair enough, decent, didn't play him as much, but he's all right. Brute, he is probably my favorite shield tank with the walls and whatnot. Uh, especially if you have rocket raccoon or jeff the land shark on your team, then pretty solid tank. Hawkeye, pretty much the hanzo of the team. But you know, uh, at least with hawkeye he's like genji and hanzo, um and one. But I don't think hawkeye can use his uh score that much. Like I think it's like an r3, you know like melee attack, but you have to keep pressing the r3 button or whatever button you have to press on to that melee attack. Now, short range melee attack, but uh, yeah, um, he's kind of annoying to go up against because like he would shoot me down in some matches and I'm like god damn you. But hey, but hey, he's okay, you know, I like, I like him hella, uh, hella. Once again.
Speaker 1:I did not play her as much and the crazy thing is like I remember her kit the least. In fact I don't even see her played that much lately. I mean, I did see her get um, some characters, some players playing with her and he's okay. Just, you know, don't have a whole lot to say about her. I might have more things in a later episode, like maybe, not like a, maybe not like a full review, but like, maybe in passing, like talking to the gang the Hulk. Now, the Hulk is the closest thing to like Diva in this game, to where you start off with Bruce Banner, then you can automatically turn into the Hulk. But then there's this ultimate where you can become Savage Hulk and just Hulk out. Become Savage Hulk and just Hulk out With melee and whatnot. Hulk is not a complicated tank, but he is.
Speaker 1:Iron Fist is the most menacing character in this because once he gets on you with the blubber blows and all that shit, he is terrifying to go up against in a one-on-one. So yeah, iron man, the flyboy, the pharaoh of the game. I know I said I was going to make a comparison to Overwatch. Hear me out. Iron man is the main flyboy in this game when you know flanking and whatnot, got his ray gun Not ray gun on A chest beam, they got in there and enhance his attacks. So I like him.
Speaker 1:Jeff the Landshark, my second favorite, because you know Cloak and Dagger, and dagger is kind of edging him out, but jeff is very strong. His kit is not complicated but his ult is what makes him scary, because he can swallow up everybody. Uh, allies and enemies, keep in mind. You can spit out allies and enemies separately. So if you accidentally um swallow up your mind, you can spit out allies and enemies separately. So if you accidentally um swallow up your allies, then you just spit them out immediately and then you take your enemies that you swallow and just poop them off the view. I love them. I love them.
Speaker 1:Loki Loki. His abilities pretty much soetor. If you know Marvel Comics, he's going to have illusionary abilities, but he has this one ability where he can mimic the abilities of other characters. So you could say he's like Echo from Overwatch. But, yeah, luna Snow, I think Lucio from Overwatch. But her abilities she has ice ability. She can freeze enemies and whatnot. She can alternate between healing and damage. So yeah, magic, magic. That's the funny thing between Iron Fist, magic and Psylocke. They seem to be fitting the Genji route when you have the guy that's like running around slashing people and magic with this giant sword sees a menace when she get up on you and then especially when she goes like demon mode and really fuck up your shit. So it can be kind of frightening if you're up against a good player.
Speaker 1:Uh, magneto, uh magneto. Yeah, he's a tank and he's okay, but for the most part it's like he doesn't feel very effective for me, unless you're ulting. Outside of that, I mean, unless you got scarlet witch on the team, you have like, oh yeah. Another thing that I like about this game is where you get bonus abilities based on who you got on your team. So it kind of uh, emphasize more synergy with the picks you make. Uh, with magneto it gives bonus ability. Like you get this blade and it's like you can cut. But blade and it's like you can cut, but also I think it's like a short range, uh, electromagnetic cut. He's good, he's okay. It's just you gotta have Scarlet Witch on your team to make full advantage of his abilities and whatnot. I'll say that you know he's alright.
Speaker 1:Mantis is surprisingly strong as a healer. Like granted, I haven't fully mastered her, but with her kit it's like she's gonna buff your allies, heal your allies and whatnot. Hell, yeah, I like her, but I haven't mastered yet. Moon knight. Now, moon knight, oh man, this guy, he's my favorite dps so far because essentially you get those onks down on the field and your moon like moon boomerang, whatever you want to call him, uh his weaponry. You can like bounce off different enemies like that and it just does so much damage in such a quick amount of time. It's like random bullshit. I love him. His ult does come in quest too sometimes. His ult does come in clutch too sometimes. Moon Knight is a very strong DPS. I like him.
Speaker 1:Namor Namor honestly doesn't get a whole lot of play in recent times, I mean, unless I don't go up against a whole bunch of Namor players and I don't team up with a whole bunch of Namor players. But surprisingly he's okay Because you know he has his little turret going and he throws his little, not a little, uh his his beer and whatnot. He's okay, but you know, not a whole lot of people gonna be picking him though. Uh, penny parker, she might be my favorite no venom, still my favorite thing. She's like my second favorite overall, like you know, because the thing is penny parker. You would think, yeah, she's more likely the diva character. But yeah, the only thing is with the mech, that's, that's about it. But uh, I would say that with penny parker I like how she has her minds, her webs, that does healing over time. So essentially you web up the force and whatnot, so that way you can be like a self-sustaining tank. That's what I like about her as a tank. Uh, I would say venom is my favorite tank still, because you know it's been a mom. I'm a venom fan boy, what can I say. But he's also a fun tank, believe it or not.
Speaker 1:Uh, yeah, but I do like Penny Parker. Like I feel like she's um strong. I don't really care for the ultimate that much. I mean I guess you could say I'm still kind of confused by how it works. But you know, sending out the mines and you're doing your little spider sweep, but it just Sometimes it just feels like I'm not doing much. When I'm, if anything, I just feel like one big distraction. That's Penny Parker. But yeah, you know, bye, ah, my bad Psylocke. She can cut through enemies and all that shit. She got the shuriken. So that's why I would say she's also like the Genji character. But unlike Genji I do like how with Psylocke her ult goes off in a certain area rather than you just going off those to no control. But you know you can kind of control where she goes with her dashing in her ults. So I like her, but I didn't play her as much the Punisher.
Speaker 1:The Punisher, similar to how you know you have Soldier 76 and bashing where like yeah, the guy that's like shooting with guns, he also had the turret guns and his oldest, as you know, him by Malga. So if anything I feel like with the Punisher, people probably would pick him to be like a last resort, like oh, you're definitely, definitely losing the point or they're almost done pushing the payload. So you got like OK, we got to pick out a dude that will definitely suppress them from winning Rocket Raccoon. Probably my second, no third favorite healer, because you know with the armor packs he can buff your allies with his ult, kind of like with Baptiste, and you know he's like a stronger backline support. You know with his gun, because if somebody sneaks up behind you, like I said before with Spider-Man or Star-Lord, at least with his gun it somebody sneaks up behind you, like I said before, with Spider-Man or Star-Lord, at least with his gun you can kind of do something.
Speaker 1:You know, scarlet Witch, she kind of she's like the DPS Moira of the game. I do like her old way. It kind of goes off like DVa's on DVa Bomb and outside of that she's okay. But I do, like her old way, kind of goes off like divas on Diva Bomb and on Saturday she's okay. She can be terrifying to go up against, like all that DPS.
Speaker 1:But yeah, squirrel Girl, oh my God, squirrel Girl is not only fun. She kind of reminds me like she feels like the junk rat. I'm sorry Once again I'm still doing those comparisons but I can't help it at this point. But another thing about squirrel girl is that, aside from her having like a simplistic I mean it's her, her kid is not complicated and the thing about it is that her character design by the way, all these character designs for the girls, champ's Kiss the guys making this game at NetEase Games. They were cooking with these models. People were even data mining for these models and Squirrel Girl is definitely a strong inspiration for that because girl is built thick.
Speaker 1:I like her Spider-Man. He probably have the highest Skill ceiling. Um, he Definitely Practice playing with him, um, you know, swinging through and all that shit. But he is pretty good. Thor Lord, think of him kind of like Tracer, but you know he can fly and all that and his ult goes off like Soldier 76 where he automatically Targets people and he's kind of fun. Storm, oh man, storm Just stands out where it's like she deals damage to a poor team With speed buffs and damage buffs, so she's kind of like a mix of dps and support and her old man oh, once again, storm with that character design beautiful, just fucking beautiful really with, uh, dagger storm, a whole bunch of them, yeah, like netease gang for doing their thing when designing these characters.
Speaker 1:Thor, okay, I need to take this back because Thor is like my third favorite tank right now, because at one point I just locked in as Thor and I was just pressing button imagine pressing and then I was like just sustaining. For the most part I thought I died a bunch of times, but I'm like, oh man, I'm still, I'm still alive. I feel like Sonic from the first movie was like how are you still alive, man? I'm like I don't know. Venom already kind of explained where he is my favorite tank, but he also has a whole bunch of mobility and whatnot and you know an infinite primary fire and whatnot. Yeah, I like Venom Winter Soldier he is just about as threatening as, I would say, the Punisher and Iron Fist, where if I see a Winter Soldier out on the field I'm like I just got a whole piece, not good.
Speaker 1:Wolverine same deal kind of like with Iron Fist, where once he get up on you, oh my god, he is so annoying to get up off you, man. And especially with Raze Berserker mode. Yeah, that's pretty much all the characters that, and especially with Raze Berserker mode. Yeah, that's pretty much all the characters that are in the game right now. But there are some characters that's been leaked like maybe like rumored or whatnot.
Speaker 1:Like you know, we have the Fantastic Four, ultron, blade, and some people were hoping for characters like Deadpool and um, doctor Doom to be playable in this game, and I kind of hope for that too, because, honestly, with Marvel Rivals, like the potential behind it, here's the thing. First of all, there's a whole lot of characters in the Marvel universe, so they can just pretty much pick and choose whatever character that fits the game and just add them in the game eventually. And second of all, I like their marketing strategy where most of the skins and whatnot are fairly affordable, like I think most bundles are like $18. And that's another thing. With Marvel Rivals being third person person, it's already doing something better to where okay, for starters, 6v6 versus overwatch 2's 5v5, and of course people prefer the 6v6 because you know two tanks to the s2 healers.
Speaker 1:But also, with it being third person shooter, when you put on those skins, you can actually see the skins, like in other words, yeah, you can probably like, do like emo and overwatch and kind of get a good look at your skin, but then again, outside of that you it's pretty much fan service for your enemies like you don't get to see the skin for the most part when you're actually playing the game, but when you are in playing marvel rivals at least you can see this game, even though you can't always see like the front of it though, like maybe in the uh mvp title card whatnot.
Speaker 1:But yeah, that's all I pretty much had to say on marvel rivals. Uh, ultimately I'm really digging this game, so I hope for more. I hope it doesn't flop and if it's the overwatch killer, then I say, give it at least a year or two, because you know anything can happen. But that's all I pretty much have to say on that. Thank you for listening. You take it easy. Have yourself a good morning, good afternoon and good night, good night, thank you. So you.
